Veliyankode is a beautiful sandy coastal village and a Gram panchayat in Ponnani taluk, Malappuram district in the state of Kerala, India. [1] It is located on the middle of Malabar Coast, between Ponnani and Perumbadappu. [2]

As of 2001 India census, Veliyankode had a population of 29596 with 14034 males and 15562 females. [1]

Geography

Veliyankode Grama Panchayat is bounded by Biyyam Kayal backwater and Puthuponnani estuary (Ponnani Municipality) to north, Maranchery Grama Panchayat to east, Perumbadappu Grama Panchayat to south and Arabian Sea to west. [2] Veliyankode Kayal is a backwater at Veliyankode. [2]

Transportation

Veliyankode village connects to other parts of India through Kuttippuram town. National highway No.66 passes through Edappal and the northern stretch connects to Goa and Mumbai. The southern stretch connects to Cochin and Trivandrum. The nearest airport is at Kozhikode. The nearest major railway station is at Kuttippuram and Tirur.

The Kuttippuram Block Panchayat is the block-level administrative body that administers the region around Kuttippuram in Malappuram district, Kerala, India. It is also one of the 15 Block Panchayats established for the proper block-level administration of Gram panchayats in the district. Established in 1962, the block's current president is Vaseema Veleri since 2020. Kuttippuram Block Panchayat lies in two assembly constituencies – Kottakkal and Tirur – both of which are part of the Ponnani parliamentary constituency. The Block is headed by a President and council, and manages 155.83 km2 of Kuttippuram block, with a population of about 229,468 within that area.
