The 1975 South Bend, Indiana mayoral election was held on November 4, 1975. The election was won by Democrat Peter Nemeth.
Democratic incumbent Jerry Miller was unseated in the primary, [1] [2] being defeated by common council member Peter Nemeth. [2] Nemeth's victory was considered an upset. [2]
John Slafkosky won the Republican nomination.
Also seeking the Republican nomination was George Williams, Jr. [3] Williams was the first black man to run for mayor of South Bend. [4] [5] Williams was a community organizer. [6]
Ronald R. Kronewittier ran as an independent candidate. [2]
Due to the strength of the Democratic Party, his upset primary victory, and his popularity as a common council member, Nemeth was favored to win. [2] He ultimately won a landslide victory. [2]

Joseph Eugene Kernan III was an American businessman and politician who served as the 48th Governor of Indiana from 2003 to 2005. He served nearly a year as a prisoner of war during the Vietnam War.
The 1974 United States Senate elections were held in the wake of the Watergate scandal, Richard M. Nixon's resignation from the presidency, and Gerald Ford's subsequent pardon of Nixon. Economic issues, specifically inflation and stagnation, were also a factor that contributed to Republican losses. As an immediate result of the November 1974 elections, Democrats made a net gain of three seats from the Republicans, as they defeated Republican incumbents in Colorado and Kentucky and picked up open seats in Florida and Vermont, while Republicans won the open seat in Nevada. Following the elections, at the beginning of the 94th U.S. Congress, the Democratic caucus controlled 61 seats and the Republican caucus controlled 38 seats.

South Bend Airport is a commuter train station on, and the eastern terminus of, the South Shore Line. Servicing South Bend International Airport, the station is 3 miles (4.8 km) northwest of the central business district of South Bend, Indiana. In November 1992, the Airport station replaced the South Shore Line's former terminus at the South Bend Amtrak Station. The new station was constructed at a cost of $1.8 million and dedicated on November 20, 1992

The winners of this election are currently serving in the 102nd General Assembly, with seats apportioned among the states based on the 2010 United States Census. The Democratic Party has held a House majority since 1997. The inauguration of the 102nd General Assembly occurred on Wednesday January 13, 2021.
Pete Buttigieg served as mayor of South Bend, Indiana from 2012 through 2020. Elected in 2011 as a Democrat, he took office in January 2012 at the age of 29, becoming the second-youngest mayor in South Bend history, and the youngest incumbent mayor, at the time, of a U.S. city with at least 100,000 residents. During his mayoralty, he acquired the nickname "Mayor Pete". Coming out as gay in 2015, Buttigieg became the first elected official in Indiana to come out while in office, as well as the highest-ranking Indiana elected official to come out. Buttigieg won reelection in 2015. Buttigieg opted against running for reelection in 2019, instead launching a campaign for the Democratic presidential nomination in the 2020 United States presidential election.
