The women's 1500 metres at the 2012 European Athletics Championships were held at the Helsinki Olympic Stadium on 30 June and 1 July.
In this race, the first four classified were disqualified for doping, meaning the medals went to the athletes who reached the finish line in 5th to 7th place. [1]
On 25 February 2016, the IAAF announced that Mischenko, the silver medal winner, had been found to have irregularities in her biological passport. She was banned from competition for two years until 17 August 2017, and all her results since June 28, 2012 were deleted from the records, including the silver medal won in this event. [2]
After the disqualifications, Nuria Fernández of Spain was declared the winner of the event.

Maryam Yusuf Jamal is an Ethiopian-born Bahraini middle-distance runner. She is the first Bahraini athlete to win an Olympic medal, a gold in the 1,500m women's race, in the 2012 Summer Olympics in London. This was also the first Olympic medal won by a woman representing a Gulf state. Born in Ethiopia, 2005 was her first full season. She gained the national record and ran the fastest 3000 m of the year, with a time of 8:28.87 at a race in Oslo. Jamal is a two-time world champion in the 1,500 m, having won at the 2007 and 2009 World Championships in Athletics.
The 13th IAAF World Championships in Athletics was an international athletics competition that was held in Daegu, South Korea. It started on 27 August 2011 and finished on 4 September 2011.
The World Athletics Race Walking Team Championships is a racewalking event organised by World Athletics. It has been held since 1961, and generally on a biennial basis. The first women's edition of the event happened in 1979. It was formerly known as the Lugano Cup after the city that hosted the first event, then became the IAAF World Race Walking Cup until 2016 and then IAAF World Race Walking Team Championships until 2018. The top two finishers were later found to have used prohibited drugs during this period, and subsequently disqualified. The current silver medalist, Tatyana Tomashova, had served a two-year doping ban (2008–2010) for manipulating samples and was banned after the Olympics for failing another drug test; and the 7th-place finisher Natallia Kareiva and the 9th-place finisher Yekaterina Kostetskaya were later disqualified after being found guilty of doping.

In this race, both Alptekin and Bulut finished first and second respectively, while the Ukraine's Anna Mischenko, who finished third, and Russia's Ekaterina Ishova, who finished fourth, have both since been disqualified by the IAAF for an ADRV and abnormal ABP results respectively. Should the reports around Bulut's possible infringement prove correct, it would mean that Spain's Nuria Fernández, who originally finished fifth, would be crowned champion.
