The 2013 New Zealand primetime television schedule for the five major free-to-air New Zealand television networks (One, 2, 3, Four and Prime) covers primetime hours throughout 2013.
Television in New Zealand was introduced in 1960 as a state-run service. The broadcasting sector was deregulated in 1989, when the Government allowed competition to the state-owned Television New Zealand (TVNZ). There are currently three forms of broadcast television: a terrestrial (DVB-T) service provided by Freeview; satellite services provided nationwide by both Freeview and Sky; and an internet television service delivered over cable and fibre broadband.

Unlike other countries, New Zealand television schedules do not run against any 'seasons' (such as the United States' 2012-13 television season), and therefore scheduling can be sporadic. This is due to delayed scheduling allow for the removal of hiatuses (thus allowing two 23 episode seasons to be aired within a year in the same time slot, for example in 2012, the eighth season of Desperate Housewives aired at 8:30pm Monday on 2 from February to July, and the eighth season of Grey's Anatomy from July to February 2013), and the varying season lengths from local and imported shows (For scripted shows, American and Australian seasons are usually between 20 and 24 episodes, British seasons are usually 6 to 8 episodes, and New Zealand seasons vary between 6 and 13 episodes). However, some shows, such as Four's Glee and How I Met Your Mother are scheduled within a week of their original American airing and therefore follow the pattern of American programming of airing repeats during hiatuses.

Desperate Housewives is an American mystery comedy-drama television series created by Marc Cherry and produced by ABC Studios and Cherry Productions. It originally aired for eight seasons on ABC from October 3, 2004 until May 13, 2012. Executive producer Cherry served as showrunner. Grey's Anatomy is an American medical drama television series that premiered on March 27, 2005, on the American Broadcasting Company (ABC) as a mid-season replacement. The fictional series focuses on the lives of surgical interns, residents, and attending physicians, as they develop into seasoned doctors while trying to maintain personal lives and relationships. The title is a play on Gray's Anatomy, a classic human anatomy textbook first published in 1858 in London and written by Henry Gray. Shonda Rhimes developed the pilot and continues to write for the series; she is also one of the executive producers, along with Betsy Beers, Mark Gordon, Krista Vernoff, Rob Corn, Mark Wilding, and Allan Heinberg. Although the series is set in Seattle, it is filmed primarily in Los Angeles, California.
New Zealand produced series premiering in 2013 include One's Agent Anna , Seven Sharp , Dishing Up Australia with Al Brown, NZ Detectives, Life Flight, Descent from Disaster and Best Bits, 2's Code 1, 3's Crime Exposed, The Blue Rose , Sunny Skies , The Radio, 3rd Degree, The Vote, Saving Gen Y, a local version of The X Factor and Harry, and Prime's The Animal Files, New Zealand from Above and Sachie's Kitchen.
Agent Anna is a New Zealand comedy-drama television series, created by Maxine Fleming with Vanessa Alexander and devised by Robyn Malcolm. It is produced by Great Southern Film and Television and funded by NZ on Air and Television New Zealand. It began airing its first series of six episodes in New Zealand on 31 January 2013. NZ on Air announced on 12 August 2013 that the show received funding for a second series of 10 episodes.
Seven Sharp is a half-hour-long New Zealand current affairs programme produced by Television New Zealand. The programme was created after the discontinuation of Close Up. It is broadcast live from the TVNZ studio it shares with 1 News in Auckland, at 7 pm every weekday on TVNZ 1. Seven Sharp typically presents 3 stories within a 30-minute timeslot every weeknight, and is designed to be more integrated with social media and real time opinions than its predecessor.
The Blue Rose is a New Zealand crime drama television series, which was created by Rachel Lang and James Griffin and produced by South Pacific Pictures. It stars Antonia Prebble as Jane and Siobhan Marshall as Linda. Marshall and Prebble had previously worked together on Outrageous Fortune.
Due to negotiations between 20th Century Fox Television and Mediaworks (owners of 3 and Four) unable to be made, Fox's properties, including staples The Simpsons , Glee and How I Met Your Mother , ceased to screen on these channels starting 8 November. [1]
