Background

The wives of the current city officials, will be running in their husbands' respective positions in the city. Carmelita Aguilar-Abalos, wife of Mayor Benhur Abalos will run for the Mayoralty position under the United Nationalist Alliance. While, former ABC-5 reporter Queenie Pahati-Gonzales, wife of Representative Neptali Gonzales will run as the representative of lone district of the city under the Liberal Party, one of her opponents is Reyes Barbecue president Francisco Reyes, an independent candidate. Benjamin "Benhur" de Castro Abalos Jr. is a Filipino lawyer and politician serving as Secretary of the Interior and Local Government since 2022. Before his appointment as DILG secretary, he last served as the Chairman of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) under the Duterte administration from 2021 to 2022. Previously, he served as the city mayor of Mandaluyong, Metro Manila, for five terms, as congressman and as councilor of the same city. He is the son of Benjamin Abalos, a former Commission on Elections (COMELEC) and MMDA chairman. In January 2021, Abalos was appointed to the same position in the MMDA as his father following the death of Danilo Lim who died from complications of COVID-19.

Mandaluyong High School is a high school located in Mandaluyong, Metro Manila, Republic of the Philippines. Founded in 1977 through the initiative of the late Mayor Renato I. Lopez, Mandaluyong High School is the oldest public secondary school of Mandaluyong. Due to its scarcity of classrooms during its pioneering years, some classes had to be held in three different elementary schools. Evolving into a comprehensive four-year public high school with the construction of additional buildings and various facilities, the school now educates around 3,800 students in six buildings. With 55 classrooms, it has the largest building of all the city's schools.
