Local elections in Taguig were held on May 9, 2016, within the Philippine general election. The voters elected for the elective local posts in the city: the mayor, vice mayor, two District representatives, and councilors, eight in each of the city's two legislative districts.
Mayor Ma. Laarni "Lani" Cayetano was on her second term, and she ran for re-election for third term unopposed. Initially, Rommel Carlos Tiñga Jr., cousin of former Mayor Sigfrido "Freddie" Tiñga, was supposed to be her opponent but later bowed out of the race, leaving her running in mayorship without any opponent.
Vice Mayor Ricardo "Ading" Cruz Jr.was on his first term, and he ran for re-election unopposed.
First District Rep. Arnel Cerafica was on his second term, and he ran for re-election for third term. She faced Gloria Cabrera.
Second District Rep. Lino Edgar Cayetano was on his first term, and he initially declared his intention to run for second term, but he withdrew after. He was replaced by his sister, Senator Pilar Juliana "Pia" Cayetano. Cayetano was challenged by Councilor Michelle Anne Gonzales.

Pilar Juliana Schramm Cayetano also known as Pia Compañera Cayetano, is a Filipina politician, lawyer, economist, athlete, and television host serving as a Senator since 2019, a position she previously held from 2004 to 2016. She was also the Representative of Taguig's 2nd district from 2016 to 2019 and was one of the Deputy Speakers.
Dante Osorio Tiñga is a Filipino politician and jurist who has served as the acting chairman of the Development Bank of the Philippines since 2022. He served as an associate justice of the Supreme Court of the Philippines from 2003 to 2009.
Alan Peter Schramm Cayetano is a Filipino lawyer and diplomat serving as a Senator since 2022 and previously from 2007 to 2017. He was the Senate Minority Leader from 2010 to 2013, and later Senate Majority Leader from 2013 to 2016. He also served as the Representative of Taguig–Pateros from 1998 to 2007 and from 2019 to 2022 and was the Speaker of the House of Representatives from 2019 until his resignation in 2020. He also served as the Secretary of Foreign Affairs from 2017 to 2018 in the cabinet of President Rodrigo Duterte, after unsuccessfully running for vice president in the 2016 elections as Duterte's running mate.
