The 2022 Gamba Osaka season was the club's 42nd season in existence and the ninth consecutive season in the top flight of Japanese football. In addition to the domestic league, Gamba Osaka participated in this season's editions of the Emperor's Cup and the J.League Cup.

    The 96th Emperor's Cup (第96回天皇杯全日本サッカー選手権大会) was the 2016 edition of the annual Japanese national cup tournament, which was held from 27 August 2016 to its final on 1 January 2017.

    The 97th Emperor's Cup (第97回天皇杯全日本サッカー選手権大会) was the 2017 edition of the annual Japanese national cup tournament, which began on 22 April 2017 and ended with the finals on 1 January 2018.

    The 2020 Gamba Osaka season was Gamba Osaka's 27th season in the J1 League and 33rd overall in the Japanese top flight. It will see them compete in the 18 team J1 League as well as the J.League Cup and Emperor's Cup competitions.

    The 2020 season is Cerezo Osaka's fourth consecutive season in the top-division of Japanese football following promotion in 2016. In addition to the J1 League, the club also competes in the 2020 Emperor's Cup and the 2020 J.League Cup.

    The 2021 Vissel Kobe season was Vissel Kobe's eighth consecutive season in the J1 League following promotion to the top flight in 2013 and their 23rd J1 League season overall. In addition to the league, the club also competed in the Emperor's Cup and the J. League Cup.

    The 2021 J.League Cup, known as the 2021 J.League YBC Levain Cup for sponsorship reasons, was the 29th edition of J.League Cup, a Japanese association football cup competition. It began on 2 March 2021 and ended on 30 October that year.

    The 2022 Júbilo Iwata season was the club's 50th season in existence and the first season back in the top flight of Japanese football. In addition to the domestic league, Júbilo Iwata participated in this season's editions of the Emperor's Cup and the J.League Cup. Finishing at last place at the J1 League, the club got relegated back to the J2 League after just a season back on the first division.

    The 2022 J.League Cup, known as the 2022 J.League YBC Levain Cup for sponsorship reasons, was the 30th edition of J.League Cup, a Japanese association football cup competition. It began on 23 February 2022 and ended on 22 October that year.

    The 2022 Urawa Red Diamonds season is the club's 72nd season in existence and the 22nd consecutive season in the top flight of Japanese football. In addition to the domestic league, Urawa Red Diamonds participated in this season's editions of the Emperor's Cup, the J.League Cup, the Japanese Super Cup and the AFC Champions League.

    The 2023 J.League Cup, known as the 2023 J.League YBC Levain Cup for sponsorship reasons, is the 31st edition of J.League Cup, a Japanese association football cup competition. Opposed to the previous editions, the competition will not use the away goals rule. No byes awarded for the knockout stage and thus no knockout round playoffs.
