The 2022 Isle of Man TT was held between 29 May and 10 June 2022, on the Isle of Man TT Mountain Course. It was the first Isle of Man TT event since 2019. [1]

Contents

The event was broadcast live for the first time in its 115-year existence on the new TT+ online service. [2]

Peter Hickman dominated the event with 4 wins, [3] with Michael Dunlop taking the remaining two solo races. The Birchall brothers extended their win streak with two Sidecar TT wins. [4]

The event was marred by the death of 6 competitors, making it the deadliest since 1970. [5] Two riders died in the Supersport class, second-time TT participant Mark Purslow in practice and the experienced Davy Morgan during the first Supersport TT. [6] Four riders died in the Sidecar class in 2 different accidents, newcomers Cesar Chanal and Olivier Lavorel in race 1 [7] , and the father and son duo of Roger and Bradley Stockton in race 2. [8] Rider-journalist Mike Booth lost his leg during a practice crash. [9]

The race was started on 4 June 2022, then red flagged on lap 1 due to the fatal accident of Cesar Chanal and Olivier Lavorel. It was re-started on 6 June 2022 as a 2 laps race.

The 99th anniversary Isle of Man TT Festival ran between Saturday 27 May and Friday 9 June on the 37.73-mile Mountain Course. The first week is known as the practice week, before the real action commenced on 3 June. There were 6 races in TT week. John McGuinness broke the lap record during practice for the Superbike race and then did it again in the race itself. He recorded a lap of 17:41.71, breaking the Superbike record from last year by 8.62 seconds and his outright lap record by 2.1 seconds.

Bruce Anstey is a professional motorcycle road racer. He is a former lap record holder on the world-famous Snaefell Mountain Course with a time of 17 minutes 6.682 seconds, at an average speed of 132.298 mph (212.913 km/h) set during the 2014 Superbike TT Race. Anstey was signed to race for the Padgett's Honda Racing Team having previously ridden for TAS Suzuki Racing, Valmoto Triumph and DTR Yamaha. TAS Racing is an international motorcycle road racing team based in Moneymore, County Londonderry, Northern Ireland. The main races were six solo motorcycle races and two sidecar races. The festival also included Pre-TT Classic Races held on 23, 24 & 26 May 2014 at the Billown Circuit in Castletown. Post-TT races scheduled for 7 June 2014 were cancelled by race organisers on safety grounds due to a thunderstorm and heavy overnight rain.
