2023 ARCA Menards Series West

The 2023 ARCA Menards Series West was the 70th season of the ARCA Menards Series West, a regional stock car racing series sanctioned by NASCAR in the United States. The season began on March 10 at Phoenix Raceway with the General Tire 150 and ended with the Desert Diamond Casino West Valley 100, also at Phoenix Raceway, on November 3.

Jake Drew entered the season as the defending champion. He did not return to the West Series full-time in 2023 and defend his title after Sunrise Ford Racing, the team that he drove for in 2022, closed down after the end of the season^[1] and he was unable to find a full-time ride with another team at the start of the 2023 season. At the conclusion of the season, Sean Hingorani of Venturini Motorsports clinched the ARCA Menards Series West championship.^[2]

Changes

Teams

On November 4, 2022, Sunrise Ford Racing team owner Bob Bruncati revealed during Jake Drew's championship celebration at Phoenix that he would be closing down his team in the West Series and would focus on competing in local short track racing. In addition to Drew's 2022 championship, SFR won the 2009 championship with Jason Bowles and the 2013 and 2018 championships with Derek Thorn.^[1]
On December 9, 2022, it was announced that the No. 18 car would go back to being owned by Joe Gibbs Racing in 2023. It was owned by Kyle Busch Motorsports in 2022.^[23]

Drivers

On April 14, 2022, Todd Souza stated in an interview for the ARCA website that he might only run part-time in the West Series in 2023 in a new second car for his own team with someone else replacing him in his No. 13 car full-time.^[32] Although Souza did return for another full season in 2023, he and his team did debut a second part-time car, the No. 3, at Shasta with him driving that car and Tyler Reif driving his No. 13 car in that race.^[7]
On March 29, 2023, it was announced that Jake Bollman would make his West Series debut in the race at Irwindale in April in the No. 55 car for High Point Racing and run multiple other races in the car in 2023.^[19]
On September 29, 2023, Young's Motorsports announced that Mamba Smith would drive their No. 02 car in the West Series season-finale at Phoenix. Smith drove the same car in the main ARCA Series race at IRP in 2022. This will be his West Series debut.^[13]

Schedule

The full schedule was announced on November 22.^[33] Some race dates were announced before then.^[34]^[35] There are twelve races on the 2023 schedule, up from eleven in 2022.

Schedule changes

Portland International Raceway only had one West Series race in 2023 after having two in 2022. The race at Portland on Labor Day weekend was removed.
Shasta Speedway (in northern California) and Madera Speedway (near Fresno, California) were both added to the schedule.

Broadcasting

Fox again broadcast the combination race at Phoenix in March. FloRacing broadcast the rest of the races.^[36]

Tyler Reif is an American professional stock car racing driver who competes full-time in the ARCA Menards Series West, driving the No. 13 Toyota Camry for Central Coast Racing, and part-time in the ARCA Menards Series, driving the No. 13 for the same team and the No. 23 Chevrolet SS for Sigma Performance Services.

Isaac Johnson is an American professional stock car racing driver who competes part-time in the ARCA Menards Series, driving the No. 34 Ford Mustang for Greg Van Alst Motorsports.

The 2024 West Coast Stock Car Motorsports Hall of Fame 150 was the 2nd stock car race of the 2023 ARCA Menards Series West season, and the 22nd running of the event. The race was held on Saturday, April 1, 2023, at Irwindale Speedway in Irwindale, California, a 0.50 mile (0.80 km) permanent asphalt oval shaped short track. The race took the scheduled 150 laps to complete. In an action-packed race, Sean Hingorani, driving for Venturini Motorsports, would hold off a challenging Landen Lewis throughout the entire race, and led the final 16 laps of the race to earn his first career ARCA Menards Series West win. Pole-sitter Trevor Huddleston dominated the early portions of the race, leading the first 72 laps, before falling back in the final stage and finishing 4th. Hingorani led 61 laps and had a hard-fought battle with Landen Lewis throughout the remainder of the event. To fill out the podium, Tyler Reif, driving for Lowden Jackson Motorsports, would finish in 3rd, respectively.

The 2024 West Coast Stock Car Motorsports Hall of Fame 150 presented by NAPA Auto Parts was the 6th stock car race of the 2024 ARCA Menards Series West season, and the 23rd iteration of the event. The race was held on Saturday, July 6, 2024, at Irwindale Speedway in Irwindale, California, a 0.50 mile (0.80 km) permanent asphalt oval shaped short track. The race was originally scheduled to be contested over 150 laps, but was extended to 152 laps due to an overtime finish. In an action-packed race with post-race controversy, Sean Hingorani, driving for Venturini Motorsports, would take advantage of late teammate troubles from Isabella Robusto, and take the lead with 29 laps to go. After surviving numerous restarts, Hingorani held off Jack Wood in a one-lap shootout to earn his sixth career ARCA Menards Series West win, his second of the season, and his second consecutive win, sweeping both doubleheader races. Robusto and Trevor Huddleston were the most dominant drivers of the race, Robusto led 58 laps while Huddleston led a race-high 62 laps. After hitting the wall with 29 laps to go, Robusto lost the lead and retired from the race with a flat tire, credited with a 17th place finish. To fill out the podium, Tyler Reif, driving for Central Coast Racing, would finish in 3rd, respectively.
