Racing career

Johnson started his career competing in Baby Grand Stock Cars in 2019. After he captured multiple Baby Grand Series main event wins in 2021, Johnson made his Super Late Model debut at Mission Valley Super Oval in 2022 in a car he built alongside late model crew chief, Travis Sharpe. Shortly after, Johnson began prepping and maintaining his family owned Late Models in their shop located in Washington. Johnson would go onto finish third with an additional five top-five finishes in seven late model starts that same year.[ citation needed ]

On December 30, 2022, it was announced that Johnson would run part-time in the ARCA Menards Series West, driving the No. 19 Chevrolet for Bill McAnally Racing, having previously being a crew member and spotter for drivers like Derek Kraus, Jesse Love, and Cole Moore. [1] [2] Uniquely compared to most professional drivers, he had prepared his own cars prior to his ARCA Series West races alongside his crew chief, Chuck Jones. Johnson's first start would come at Portland International Raceway, where he would start and finish tenth after contact led to a spin on the closing lap. [3] [4] In the next race at Sonoma Raceway, he would start eighteenth but would go on to finish 27th due to transmission issues halfway through the race. [5] He would return at Evergreen Speedway, this time running in a Toyota, where he would start fourteenth and finish eleventh, [6] and would run the next race at All American Speedway, where he would start eleventh and finish in ninth place. [7]

On January 19, 2024, it was announced that Johnson would run full-time in the West Series in 2024, driving the No. 19 for BMR. Johnson went on to win Rookie of The Year honors after finishing sixth in points. [8] [9]

On December 23, 2024, it was announced that Johnson would be driving the No. 5 Toyota Camry full-time for Jerry Pitts Racing in 2025. [10] Just three races in, Johnson claimed a career best result of second in a three-wide finish at Tucson Speedway. [11]
