Abdul Khaleque was a social reformer,Islamic preacher,educator,philosopher,Sufi personality,politician,and writer. He was born in 1892 in the village of Chhatura,in the Tipperah District of Bengal Presidency,British India (now in Akhaura Upazila,Brahmanbaria District,Bangladesh).
He began his career as a Persian professor at Feni Government College. Later,he served as a professor and administrator at Presidency College,Kolkata,Lady Brabourne College,and Dhaka Eden Girls' College. Between 1925 and 1949,he worked at various educational institutions.[ citation needed ]
Mawlana Khaleque was also the chief disciple of Mawlana Abu Bakr Siddique of Furfura Sharif and actively preached Islam across different regions of the Indian subcontinent.[ citation needed ]
In the Legislative Assembly election of 1954,he contested as an independent candidate and defeated opponents from both the United Front and the Pakistan Muslim League to secure a seat in the East Bengal Legislative Assembly. [1]
Mawlana Abdul Khaleq authored many books,including the renowned Sirajus Salikin and Sayyidul Mursalin . He translated Munabbihat into Bengali and wrote Guncha-e-Farsi and Durratul Adab,which were once part of the Kolkata Education Board curriculum.[ citation needed ]
He had two sons. One,Abdul Quddus,retired as a Brigadier from the Bangladesh Army,while the other was Mosabber Hossain Kawsar. [2]
He died on April 2,1955,at his residence in Bakshi Bazar,Dhaka. After his death,his shrine was established in chhaturaura,which is now known as the Chhatura Darbar Sharif Complex.[ citation needed ]
According to legends,water from of his residence mixed with the pond situated near his shrine is believed to have healing properties. [3]

The United Front was a coalition of political parties in East Bengal which contested and won Pakistan's first provincial general election to the East Bengal Legislative Assembly. Veteran student leader of East Pakistan Khaleque Nawaz Khan defeated sitting Prime Minister of East Pakistan Mr. Nurul Amin in Nandail Constituency of Mymensingh district and created history in political arena. Nurul Amin's crushing defeat to a 27 years old young Turk of United Front effectively eliminated the Muslim League from political landscape of the then East Pakistan with United Front parties securing a landslide victory and gaining 223 seats in the 309-member assembly. The Awami League emerged as the majority party,with 143 seats.
Khandakar Abdur Rashid,better known as Abdur Rashid Tarkabagish was a Bangladeshi politician and Islamic scholar. His career spans from the anti-colonial independence movement to the establishment of both Pakistan and Bangladesh. Tarkabagish was the second president of the All Pakistan Awami Muslim League,and served as a member of the National Assembly of Pakistan and later the Parliament of Bangladesh. Despite being a member of the treasury bench,he opposed what he considered to be the repressive mentality of the Nurul Amin government towards the Bengali Language Movement.

He led a peasant movement in Gafargaon,Mymensingh,which eventually led to the establishment of Batinia Madrasa.
