Ahandara is a valley and settlement in Takhar Province on the Kunduz River. The valley is crossed by the road from Kunduz to Faizabad, and located about 22 miles west of Teshkhan. There is also a village by the same name in Badakhshan Province, located on the road from Taloqan to Faizabad, about 15 miles west of the Lataband Pass. [1]
Badakhshan is a historic region comprising parts of what is now north-eastern Afghanistan, eastern Tajikistan, and the Tashkurgan county in China. The name is retained in Badakhshan Province, which is one of the 34 provinces of Afghanistan and is located in Northeastern Afghanistan. Much of historic Badakhshan lies within Tajikistan's Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region, located in the southeastern part of the country. The music of Badakhshan is an important part of the region's cultural heritage.
Kunduz is a city in northern Afghanistan, the capital of Kunduz Province. The city has an estimated population of about 268,893 as of 2015, making it about the 7th-largest city of Afghanistan, and the largest city in northeastern Afghanistan. Kunduz is in the historical Tokharistan region of Bactria, near the confluence of the Kunduz River with the Khanabad River. Kunduz is linked by highways with Kabul to the south, Mazar-i-Sharif to the west, and Badakhshan to the east. Kunduz is also linked with Dushanbe in Tajikistan to the north, via the Afghan dry port of Sherkhan Bandar.
Kunduz or Qunduz is one of the 34 provinces of Afghanistan, located in the northern part of the country next to Tajikistan. The population of the province is around 1,136,677, which is mostly a tribal society; it is one of Afghanistan's most ethnically diverse provinces with many different ethnicities in large numbers living there. The city of Kunduz serves as the capital of the province. It borders the provinces of Takhar, Baghlan, Samangan and Balkh, as well as the Khatlon Region of Tajikistan. Faizabad is a city in the Ayodhya district in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, which forms a municipal corporation with the city of Ayodhya. It was the headquarters of Faizabad district and Faizabad division until 6 November 2018, when the Uttar Pradesh cabinet headed by chief minister Yogi Adityanath approved the renaming of Faizabad district as Ayodhya, and the shifting of the administrative headquarters of the district to Ayodhya city. Faizabad is situated on the banks of river Saryu about 130 km east of state capital Lucknow. It was the first capital of the Nawabs of Awadh and has monuments built by the Nawabs, like the Tomb of Bahu Begum, Gulab Bari.
Baghlan is a city in northern Afghanistan, in the eponymous province, Baghlan Province. It is located three miles east of the Kunduz River, 35 miles south of Khanabad, and about 500 metres above sea level in the northern Hindu Kush.
Kunduz Airport is a public and military airport located 5 miles (8 km) south-southeast of Kunduz, a city in Kunduz Province in Afghanistan. It is also 9 miles (14 km) west of Khan Abad, 25 miles (40 km) south of the Oxus River, and 33 miles (53 km) south of the Tajikistan border.
Baghlani Jadid is a district of Baghlan Province in northern Afghanistan. It has a population of about 119,607.
Fayzabad Airport is an airport located 3.5 miles (5.6 km) northwest of Fayzabad, the provincial capital of Badakhshan Province, Afghanistan.
The Ali abad District is situated in the southern part of Kunduz Province, Afghanistan. It borders the Baghlan Province to the south, Chahar dara District to the west, Kunduz and Khan Abad districts to the north and Takhar Province to the east.
The Archi District, also known as Dasht-i-Archi is situated in the northeastern part of Kunduz Province in Afghanistan. It borders with Khan Abad and Kunduz districts to the south-west, Imam Sahib District to the north-west, Tajikistan to the north and Takhar Province to the east.
Chārdara District is one of the seven districts in Kunduz Province in northern Afghanistan. It is situated in the south-west part of Kunduz Province and has borders with Qalay-I-Zal District to the north-west, Kunduz District to the north-east, Ali Abad District to the south-east, Baghlan Province to the south and Samangan Province to the south-west.
Kunduz District is situated in the center of Kunduz Province in Northern Afghanistan, around the provincial capital - the city of Kunduz. It borders Chahar dara District to the west, Qalay-I-Zal and Imam Sahib districts to the north, Archi and Khan Abad districts to the east and Ali abad District to the south. The population is 254,100 (2006). The roads are good and all the villages are accessible. There is an airport 8 km South-East from the city.
The agriculture is a major source of income and the land is in very good condition and most of it irrigated. There are other business activities also and the rate of unemployed people is lower than the other districts in the province.
Ak Tap is a village located on the road from Kunda Gazar to Hazrat Imam. It is about 10 miles from Hazrat Imam, and, as of the turn of the twentieth century, housed 25 Uzbek families.
Altan Jalab is a village in Afghanistan. At the turn of the 20th century, it has been the end of the 30th stage on the Jalalabad-Faizabad-Rustak road, about halfway between Faizabad and Rustak. The area is also said to have been the location of extensive ruins of the town and fort of Kala-i-Zafar. More recently, Altan Jalab has been reported as the name of a small town about 27 miles southwest of Faizabad, with a stream in the vicinity.
Amrut is the name of a village in Kunduz Province in the Khinjan valley near the mouth of the Bajgah glen, about six miles east of Khinjan. It has earlier been inhabited by Koh-i-Gadi Hazaras.
Ao Barik is a village in Afghanistan. It lies roughly 15 miles southwest of Faizabad in Badakhshan Province. There is also a valley of that name in Afghanistan, descending north from the Kaoshan pass.
The Kunduz River is a tributary of the Amu Darya in northern Afghanistan. It rises in Bamyan Province in the Hindu Kush, and in its upper reaches is also known as the Bamyan River or the Surkhab River. After passing through Kunduz Province, the Kunduz River merges into the Amu Darya.
Fayzabad is a city in northeast Afghanistan, with a population of about 30,000 people. It serves as the provincial capital and largest city of Badakhshan Province. It is situated in Fayzabad District and is at an altitude of 1,200 m. (3,937 ft.).
The Khānabād River flows in the provinces of Takhar and Kunduz in northern Afghanistan. The Khanabad River is a tributary of the Kunduz River, which is in turn a tributary of the Amu River.
Operation Halmazag was an offensive operation by ISAF German-led troops in close cooperation with the Afghan security forces in the province of Kunduz, from 31 October to 4 November 2010, with the aim of building a permanent outpost near the village of Quatliam in the Char Dara district, south-west of Kunduz. The operation was the first German military ground offensive since World War II.
