The Airport Core Programme Exhibition Centre is housed in a single-storey distinctive white structure situated at 401 Castle Peak Road,Ting Kau,New Territories in Hong Kong. The exhibition centre is run by the Home Affairs Department for the Airport Core Programme,often referred to as the Rose Garden Project.
The building was originally named Homi Villa,it was built by a private developer,Jehangir H. Ruttonjee,in the early 1930s. It was later bought by the Hong Kong Government and used as staff quarters for British army officers. For example,it served as the residence of Sir Philip Haddon-Cave,the Financial Secretary between 1971 and 1982.
It was converted into the Airport Core Programme Exhibition Centre in 1995 by the New Airport Projects Co-ordination Office (NAPCO),it opened in early 1996. [1] During the first six months of operation 100,000 people visited the centre,with weekends averaging more than 2,000 visitors. [2] To help contend with the popularity opening hours were extended to public holidays. [2]
Although the Airport Core Programme was completed in 1998 with the opening of the Hong Kong International Airport,the exhibition centre remains open as of November 2017. [3]
There are five exhibition areas,displaying models,photos and descriptions of the 10 airport-related projects to give a full picture of the entire construction project of the Hong Kong International Airport.
Permanently mounted rooftop binoculars are available for visitors to view Tsing Ma Bridge which links Tsing Yi on the east to Ma Wan on the west,crossing Ma Wan Channel. It is part of the Lantau Link which,with three long span bridges,links the New Territories and Chek Lap Kok,where the Hong Kong International Airport is located.
Tsing Ma Bridge is a bridge in Hong Kong. It is the world's 14th-longest span suspension bridge,and was the second longest at time of completion. The bridge was named after the two islands it connects,namely Tsing Yi and Ma Wan. It has two decks and carries both road and rail traffic,which also makes it the largest suspension bridge of this type. The bridge has a main span of 1,377 metres (4,518 ft) and a height of 206 metres (676 ft). The span is the longest of all bridges in the world carrying rail traffic.
The Islands District is one of the 18 districts of Hong Kong. It is part of the New Territories. It had a population of 170,900 in 2018.
Tsing Yi,sometimes referred to as Tsing Yi Island,is an island in the urban area of Hong Kong,to the northwest of Hong Kong Island and south of Tsuen Wan. With an area of 10.69 km2 (4.13 sq mi),the island has extended drastically by reclamation along almost all its natural shore and the annexation of Nga Ying Chau (牙鷹洲) and Chau Tsai. Three major bays or harbours,Tsing Yi Lagoon,Mun Tsai Tong and Tsing Yi Bay (青衣灣) in the northeast,have been completely reclaimed for new towns.
Tsuen Wan New Town is a new town in Hong Kong. It spans Tsuen Wan,Kwai Chung and the eastern part of Tsing Yi Island. Traditionally,the administrative officials of Tsuen Wan managed the area of Tsuen Wan proper,Kwai Chung,Tsing Yi Island,Ma Wan and Northeast Lantau Island. Its total development area is about 24 square kilometres (9.3 sq mi). The population of the new town is approximately 801,800,with the planned capacity being 845,000.
Tung Chung,meaning "eastern stream",is an area on the northwestern coast of Lantau Island,Hong Kong. One of the most recent new towns,it was formerly a rural fishing village beside Tung Chung Bay,and along the delta and lower courses of Tung Chung River and Ma Wan Chung in the north-western coast of Lantau Island. The area was once an important defence stronghold against pirates and foreign military during the Ming and the Qing dynasties.
The Tung Chung line is one of the ten lines of the MTR system in Hong Kong,linking the town of Tung Chung with central Hong Kong. A part of the Tung Chung line was built along with the Kap Shui Mun Bridge and the Tsing Ma Bridge. The line currently travels through eight stations in 31 minutes along its route. Hoi Mei Wan Beach is a gazetted beach located near Airport Core Programme Exhibition Centre on Castle Peak Road in Ting Kau,New Territories,Hong Kong. The beach has barbecue pits and is managed by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department of the Hong Kong Government. The beach is rated as Grade 2 by the Environmental Protection Department for its water quality. The beach offers views of the Ting Kau Bridge as well as Tsing Ma Bridge.
