Amara Raja Group is an Indian multinational conglomerate, headquartered in Tirupati. The group has a presence in the automotive battery business, packaged foods and beverages, electronics products manufacturing, infrastructure sector, power system production and fabrication of sheet metal products and fasteners. [1] The Amara Raja Group is known for its automotive battery brand Amaron, the second largest selling automotive battery brand in India after Exide Industries. [2]

Amara Raja Group employs a workforce of more than 15,216 employees. Amara Raja Batteries was named on Asia's 'Best Under A Billion' 2010 list of companies compiled by Forbes magazine. [3]

History

A first generation entrepreneur, Ramachandra Naidu Galla, founded the Amara Raja Group of companies in 1985 and became the first CEO. The automotive batteries business unit commenced operations in 2001 with a joint technology venture with Johnson Controls, the world's largest manufacturer of automotive batteries. It pioneered the introduction of zero maintenance technology in India's automotive battery segment, the key differentiator in the Indian electric storage market.

The group was named after Jaydev's grandparents Amaravati and Rajagopal Naidu. [4]

Amara Raja Giga Corridor

Amara Raja's first giga factory is a lithium-ion cell and battery pack manufacturing facility in Mahbubnagar, Telangana. The factory will have a initial capacity of 16 GWh for lithium cells and 5 GWh for battery packs.. The first phase of the battery pack plant was inaugurated with a current capacity of 1.5 GWh and will be scaled up to 5GW once completed.Amara Raja has partnerships with Piaggio Vehicles Private Limited and Ather Energy to develop and supply cells and battery pack.

Amara Raja Advanced Cell Technologies Pvt. Ltd (ARACT), a wholly owned subsidiary of Amara Raja Energy & Mobility Ltd (ARE&M) has signed a technical licensing agreement with GIB EnergyX Slovakia s.r.o., a subsidiary of Gotion High-Tech Co Ltd. As part of the agreement GIB EnergyX will license Gotion’s world class LFP technology for lithium-ion cells to ARACT.

Philanthropy

The Amara Raja Group has philanthropic operations focused on the upliftment of rural populations, and has committed itself to social activities in the areas of rural employment, learning & education, social rehabilitation, and rural upliftment. Specific schemes that benefit the local rural community include the supply and availability of safe drinking water by coordination and in participation with the rural community. [9]

Founded in 1932, it is a part of Rs. 15,000-crore Amalgamations Group, one of India's largest light engineering groups. Today, AMCO is the leading supplier of two-wheeler batteries to companies like Honda, Hero Motor Corp, Bajaj Auto, TVS, Yamaha, Royal Enfield, Mahindra Two Wheelers etc. It also supplies four-wheeler batteries to TAFE Tractors, Eicher Tractors, Sonalika Tractors etc.

EVE Energy Co., Ltd. is a Chinese battery manufacturing company founded in 2001 that specializes in the manufacturing of lithium-ion batteries for energy storage systems and electric vehicles. Its headquarters are located in Huizhou, Guangdong, and it was first listed on the Shenzhen Stock Exchange's ChiNext subsidiary in 2009. It is considered to be a Tier-1 battery supplier, and is the third largest energy storage battery cell maker in the world as of 2023. According to a study done by SNE Research in 2023, Eve Energy was the 9th largest electric vehicle battery maker worldwide with 2.3% market share; in a mid-2024 study, market share rose to 2.6%.

Beijing WeLion New Energy Technology Co., Ltd., known simply as WeLion New Energy or WeLion, is a Chinese battery manufacturer specializing in semi-solid and solid state batteries for use in electric vehicles and energy storage systems. The company is headquartered in the Beijing's Fangshan District, and is a spinoff from the Labratory of Renewable Energy of the Institute of Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. It is best known for supplying the world's first mass produced semi-solid state battery cells for an automotive traction battery application, in the form of Nio's 150 kWh swappable battery pack.
