The Athletic Federation of Yugoslavia (Serbo croatian Atletski Savez Jugoslavije) was the governing body for the sport of athletics in Yugoslavia. It was founded on 11.IX 1921 in Zagreb as Yugoslav Light Athletics Federation (JLAS - Jugoslavenski lakoatletski savez).

Dragan Zdravković is a Serbian former middle-distance runner. He represented Yugoslavia in international competition from the late 1970s to 1980s, and was a finalist at the 1980 Summer Olympics. Zdravković holds multiple outdoor and indoor Serbian records in athletics.

Ivan Ivančić was a Croatian athletics coach and shot putter who represented Yugoslavia. He was the gold medalist in the 1975 Mediterranean Games, as well as a multiple national champion and record holder. As a coach, Ivančić specialized in the throwing events, and was best known for coaching Sandra Perković, an Olympic and two-time World discus throw champion.

The Balkan Cross Country Championships has since 1958 been an annual regional international competition in cross country running amongst athletes from the Balkans. It forms part of the Balkan Games, the latter an event to encourage the relations amongst the participating nations surrounding the Mediterranean Sea and it traces its history back to 1940. The competition complemented the long-running annual outdoor track and field tournament: the Balkan Games.
