Dr. Ayathan Gopalan Memorial English Medium High School is a school in Calicut, Kerala, India. It was founded by Shri A. Balagopal, who was a freedom fighter and the preceptor to the literary culture in the Malabar area. He was one of the key architects in strengthening the movement of Indian National Congress in the State. The institution was named "Dr. Ayathan Gopalan Memorial School", in memory of his father Dr. Rao Sahib Ayathan Gopalan (1861-1948), who brought the Brahma Samaj Movement to Kerala. This is the only school in the state of Kerala that runs under the patronage of BRAHMA SAMAJ and in the premises of Brahma samaj compound.

The Chera Dynasty was the first prominent kingdom based in Kerala. The Ay kingdom in the deep south and the Ezhimala kingdom in the north formed the other kingdoms in the early years of the Common Era. The region had been a prominent spice exporter since 3000 BCE. The region's prominence in trade was noted in the works of Pliny as well as the Periplus around 100 CE. In the 15th century, the spice trade attracted Portuguese traders to Kerala, and paved the way for European colonisation of India. At the time of Indian independence movement in the early 20th century, there were two major princely states in Kerala-Travancore State and the Kingdom of Cochin. They united to form the state of Thiru-Kochi in 1949. The Malabar region, in the northern part of Kerala had been a part of the Madras province of British India, which later became a part of the Madras State post-independence. After the States Reorganisation Act, 1956, the modern-day state of Kerala was formed by merging the Malabar district of Madras State, the state of Thiru-Kochi, and the taluk of Kasaragod in South Canara (Tulunad) which was a part of Madras State.

Keshub Chandra Sen Indian academic

Keshab Chandra Sen was an Indian Bengali philosopher and social reformer. Born a Hindu, he became a member of the Brahmo Samaj in 1856 but founded his own breakaway "Brahmo Samaj of India" in 1866 while the Brahmo Samaj remained under the leadership of Maharshi Debendranath Tagore. In 1878 his followers abandoned him after the underage child marriage of his daughter which exposed his campaign against child marriage as hollow. Later in his life he came under the influence of Ramakrishna and founded a syncretic "New Dispensation" or Nôbobidhan inspired by Christianity, and Vaishnavbhakti, and Hindu practices.

Guruvayur Satyagraha took place in (1931–32) and was a Satyagraha in present Thrissur district, which was then part of Ponnani Taluk of Malabar district, now part of Kerala, which was an effort to allow entry for untouchables into the Guruvayur Temple. It was led by K.Kelappan, who undertook a hunger strike for 12 days, until it was abandoned because of a request from Mahatma Gandhi and the Indian National Congress. . Mahatma Gandhi hailed it as "the miracle of modern times" and " a smriti which is peoples charter of spiritual emanicipation". K. Kelappan, A.K Gopalan(volunteer captain), P.Krishna Pillai, Mannathu Padmanabhan and N.P Damodaran Nair were the leaders of that agitation. It was a failure, For another four years, nothing much changed in Guruvayur or in the rest of the region that today constitutes the State of Kerala. It was only in 1936 that many temples in Kerala were opened for all to use.

Brahmoism is a religious movement from the late 19th century Bengal originating the Bengali Renaissance, the nascent Indian independence movement and the wider Hindu reform movements of the period. Adherents, known as Brahmos, are mainly of Indian or Bangladeshi origin or nationality. The Brahmo Samaj, literally the "Divine Society", was founded as a movement by Ram Mohan Roy. Ramanujan Mathematical Society is an Indian organisation of persons formed with the aim of "promoting mathematics at all levels".
