Mannuthy is suburb area on National Highway 544 of Thrissur city of Kerala, India. Mannuthy is Ward 13 of Thrissur Municipal Corporation. Kerala Agricultural University is situated in Vellanikkara near mannuthy. Mannuthy is also a center for many of the government and private educational institutions. Among the famous few are the Agricultural Technology Information Centre, Mannuthy (ATIC), Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Mannuthy (KVK), Kerala Veterinary College, Mannuthy, Agricultural Research Station, College of Dairy Science and Technology, Don Bosco High School, Don Bosco College, Mannuthy, Holy Family School and Marymatha Major Seminary and Calcus Technologies Pvt Ltd. Mannuthy is also famous for its nurseries. There are around 1000 nurseries selling potted plants, herbs, saplings and seeds in Mannuthy.Major banks have their branches in Mannuthy including SBT, Canara Bank, ESAF Small Finance Bank, South Indian Bank, Bank of Baroda, Catholic Syrian Bank and KSFE. Areas around Mannuthy are Mukkattukara, Madakathara, Vellanikara, Mulayam, Mullakara, Nadathara and Ollukara. Mannuthy is one of the entry point to Thrissur City. Mannuthy is also near to the Peechi Dam.

Thrissur, originally Thri Siva Peroor and previously known by its anglicised form as Trichur, is the third largest city, the third largest urban agglomeration in Kerala and the 20th largest in India. Thrissur is also known as the "Cultural Capital of Kerala" because of its cultural, spiritual and religious leanings throughout history. It is the headquarters of the Thrissur District. The city is built around a 65-acre (26 ha) hillock called the Thekkinkadu Maidan which seats the Vadakkumnathan temple. Thrissur was once the capital of the Kingdom of Cochin. It is located 300 kilometres (186 mi) towards north-west of the state capital Thiruvananthapuram. One of the main cultural events in Thrissur is the Thrissur Pooram, which attracts quite a number of tourists and travellers.

Kerala, locally known as Keralam, is a state on the southwestern, Malabar Coast of India. It was formed on 1 November 1956, following passage of the States Reorganisation Act, by combining Malayalam-speaking regions. Spread over 38,863 km2 (15,005 sq mi), Kerala is the twenty-second largest Indian state by area. It is bordered by Karnataka to the north and northeast, Tamil Nadu to the east and south, and the Lakshadweep Sea and Arabian Sea to the west. With 33,387,677 inhabitants as per the 2011 Census, Kerala is the thirteenth-largest Indian state by population. It is divided into 14 districts with the capital being Thiruvananthapuram. Malayalam is the most widely spoken language and is also the official language of the state.

History

The college came into existence in 1955 as Government Veterinary College. The college was inaugurated by then Chief Minister E. M. S. Namboodiripad. Initially, the college was affiliated to Kerala University and subsequently to Calicut University in 1966. It was later renamed as the Kerala Veterinary College and Research Institute for a short period. When the Kerala Agricultural University was formed in February 1972, the college was transferred to it and was renamed again as the College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences.

E. M. S. Namboodiripad Indian politician

Elamkulam Manakkal Sankaran Namboodiripad, popularly EMS, was an Indian communist politician and theorist, who served as the first Chief Minister of Kerala state in 1957–59 and then again in 1967–69. As a member of the Communist Party of India (CPI), he became the first non-Indian National Congress chief minister in the Indian republic. In 1964, he led a faction of the CPI that broke away to form the Communist Party of India (Marxist). He completed his graduation from St. Thomas College, Thrissur.

University of Kerala (UoK), formerly the University of Travancore, is an affiliating university located in Thiruvananthapuram, capital of the state of Kerala, India. It was established in 1937, long before the birth of the state of Kerala in India, by a promulgation of the Maharajah of Travancore, Sri Chithira Thirunal Balarama Varma who was also the first Chancellor of the university. The University of Calicut, also known as Calicut University is a state university in India run by the state of Kerala. It is headquartered at Thenjipalam in Malappuram district. Established in 1968, it is the second university to be set up in Kerala after University of Kerala. The university is affiliated by the University Grants Commission of India. The university has off-campus centres in Malappuram, Kozhikode, Thrissur, Palakkad, Wayanad districts, and in Lakshadweep islands. It conducts courses and examinations for the students of the affiliated colleges. It has 30 post graduate departments and 426 colleges.

On 12 June 2010 a new university exclusively for veterinary science came into existence. The ordinance that was passed by the Left Democratic Front government on that day to set up a veterinary university on the campus of the College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Pookode, near Vythiri, in Wayanad district gives fresh hope to the residents, especially the dairy farmers in the hilly district.

Wayanad is an Indian district in the north-east of Kerala state with headquarters at the municipality of Kalpetta. It is set high on the Western Ghats with altitudes ranging from 700 to 2100. The district was formed on 1 November 1980 as the 12th district in Kerala by carving out areas from Kozhikode and Kannur districts. About 885.92 sq.km of area of the district is under forest. Wayanad has three municipal towns—Kalpetta, Mananthavady and Sulthan Bathery. There are many indigenous tribals in this area.

According to the Ordinance, the proposed university would have the jurisdiction of the entire state.

The Mannuthy Veterinary College and its 400 acres of campus, the Pookode Veterinary College and its 90 acres of campus, the veterinary clinical complex of the Pookode Veterinary College, College of Dairy Science Technology, Mannuthy, Livestock Research Station in Palakkad and its 400 acres of campus, dairy farm at Kolahalamedu in Idukki, various farms in Mannuthy, the cattle infertility centre in Kozhikode and the Veterinary Hospital in Thrissur, cattle breeding farm at Thumboormuzhy, is handed over to the university. The Government of Kerala established nation's first exclusive hospital for elephants in the campus.

Thrissur Pooram Exhibition or commonly known as the All India Agricultural, Industrial, Educational and Cultural Exhibition is an exhibition organised jointly by Paramekkavu Bagavathi Temple Devaswom and Thiruvambadi Sri Krishna Temple Devaswom, ahead of Thrissur Pooram in Thekkinkadu Maidan in Thrissur city. It is usually conducted over a period of 40 to 50 days during the Thrissur Pooram.
