Berclair is bordered by the CSX railroad to the north; Interstate 40, Covington Pike, and Stratford Road to the east; Summer Avenue to the south; and Graham Street to the west.
The area was developed shortly after World War II in the same manner as Levittown, New York, with many small houses for returning soldiers and their families. [1] At its beginning, the area originally was not a part of Memphis, but was annexed into the city in the late 1950s or early 1960s. [2]
Waring Road, which runs through Berclair, is named for George E. Waring, Jr., the innovative sanitary engineer who designed the drainage system that ended the era of yellow fever epidemics in 19th-century Memphis.
The original Holiday Inn chain of hotels was founded in 1952 in Memphis by homebuilder Kemmons Wilson to provide inexpensive family accommodation for travelers in the USA. Wilson opened the first Holiday Inn in September 1952 at 4941 Summer Avenue in Berclair, on the main road to Nashville. [1] Although it no longer exists, an historical marker has been installed at the location.

The history of Memphis, Tennessee and its area began many thousands of years ago with succeeding cultures of indigenous peoples. In the first millennium, it was settled by the Mississippian Culture. The Chickasaw Indian tribe emerged about the 17th century, or migrated into the area. The earliest European exploration may have encountered remnants of the Mississippian culture by Spanish explorer Hernando de Soto. Later French explorers led by René-Robert Cavelier, Sieur de La Salle likely encountered the Chickasaw. The European-American city of Memphis was not founded until 1819. The city was named after the ancient capital of Egypt on the Nile River in North Africa. It rapidly developed as a major trading center for cotton cultivated at the region's large plantations and dependent on the work of enslaved African Americans. In the 19th century, and especially 1878 and 1879, the city suffered severe yellow fever epidemics. In 1878 tens of thousands of residents fled and more than 5,000 died, with hundreds more dying in the next year's epidemic, causing the city to go bankrupt and give up its charter until 1893.
Capleville was an unincorporated community in Shelby County, Tennessee, United States, just north of the Mississippi border. It is located 0.5 mi. east of the Memphis International Airport, starting 1 mi. west of the intersection of State Routes 176 and 175, and heading east along State Route 175 crossing U.S. Route 78. The area has been incorporated into the City of Memphis and since has become a large industrial center due to its proximity to the airport and Lamar Avenue which becomes a divided freeway after State Route 175.

Some of its area is currently still unincorporated. Eads is located north of Collierville, west of Somerville, east of Memphis and east of Bartlett. The Eads zip code (38028) stretches into both Shelby County and Fayette County, including parts of Hickory Withe and Fisherville. Major roads in the community include Winfield Dunn Parkway, U.S. Route 64, Collierville-Arlington Road/Airline Road, and Seward Road.

"The neighborhood represents the efforts of members of an Orthodox religious group to accommodate their beliefs by developing a synagogue and housing for the congregation within easy walking distance."
