The Bryn Mawr Historic District is on the lakefront of the Edgewater neighborhood of far-north Chicago, Illinois. It extends along Bryn Mawr Avenue between Broadway Avenue and Sheridan Road. Its most prominent features are the Belle Shore Apartment Hotel, Bryn Mawr Apartment Hotel, Edgewater Beach Apartments, Edgewater Presbyterian Church, Manor House, and the northernmost area of Lincoln Park.
The Aquitania is a luxury, 82-unit cooperative apartment building in the Margate Park neighborhood of the Uptown community of Chicago, Illinois. It is officially designated on the National Register of Historic Places by The United States Department of the Interior.
The Hawley–Green Historical District is in the Near Northeast neighborhood of Syracuse, New York. The name comes from the district's two principal streets, Hawley Avenue and Green Street. As Hawley–Green Street Historic District, the district was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979. In 2018 its boundaries were increased to include a number of adjacent streets with similarly styled buildings.
The Lummus Park Historic District or simply Lummus Park, is on the National Register of Historic Places and a locally historic designated district in Miami, Florida. It is roughly bound by Northwest Fifth Street to the north, Flagler Street to the south, Northwest Third Avenue to the east, and the Miami River to the west. On October 25, 2006, it was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places. Lummus Park has some of the oldest structures in Miami, and over the decades, has been able to retain a large part of its early pioneer character.
The Archwood Avenue Historic District is a historic residential district in the Brooklyn Centre neighborhood of Cleveland, Ohio, United States. Composed of houses constructed around the turn of the twentieth century, it has been one of the neighborhood's most important streets since it was established, and it was designated a historic district in 1987.
The city of Davenport, Iowa, United States has neighborhoods dating back to the 1840s. The Davenport Plan and Zoning Commission divided the city into five areas: downtown, central, east end, near north, and northwest and west end. The neighborhoods contain many architectural designs, including Victorian, Queen Anne, and Tudor Revival. Many of the original neighborhoods were first inhabited by German settlers.
Highland Heights–Stevens' Subdivision Historic District is a residential historic district located in Highland Park, Michigan along five east-west streets: Farrand Park, McLean Street, Colorado Street, Rhode Island Street, and Massachusetts Street, between Woodward Avenue on the west and Oakland Avenue on the east. The district was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1988.
West Village is a historic district roughly bounded by Jefferson, Kercheval, Parker, and Seyburn Avenues in Detroit, Michigan. Adjacent to the west is the Islandview neighborhood, and adjacent to the east is Indian Village. The district received its name in the mid 20th century because of its location just west of the more well-known Indian Village Historic District. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980.
Prairie Avenue is a north–south street on the South Side of Chicago, which historically extended from 16th Street in the Near South Side community area of Chicago in Cook County, Illinois, United States, to the city's southern limits and beyond. The street has a rich history from its origins as a major trail for horseback riders and carriages. During the last three decades of the 19th century, a six-block section of the street served as the residence of many of Chicago's elite families and an additional four-block section was also known for grand homes. The upper six-block section includes part of the historic Prairie Avenue District, which was declared a Chicago Landmark and added to the National Register of Historic Places.
The Riverview Terrace Historic District is a 15.2-acre (6.2 ha) historic district in Davenport, Iowa, United States, that was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1984. It was listed on the Davenport Register of Historic Properties in 1993. The neighborhood was originally named Burrow's Bluff and Lookout Park and contains a three-acre park on a large hill.
The Prospect Park Historic District in Davenport, Iowa, United States, is a historic district that was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1984. In its 23.2-acre (9.4 ha) area, it included 23 contributing buildings in 1984. The Prospect Park hill was listed on the Davenport Register of Historic Properties in 1993.
The Stuart Area Historic District is a primarily residential historic district Roughly bounded by the Michigan Central RR, Douglas, Forbes, West Main, North, and Elm Streets, and Kalamazoo and Grand Avenues, in Kalamazoo, Michigan. The bulk of the district was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983, with additions in 1995.
The Lake-Side Terrace Apartments are a historic apartment building at 7425-7427 South Shore Drive in the South Shore neighborhood of Chicago, Illinois. Built in 1922-23, the building is an example of a courtyard apartment, a popular apartment style in early 20th century Chicago. As the building adjoins Lake Michigan, its courtyard opens toward the lake; the courtyard is also elevated to enhance its lake view. Chicago architect Eric Edwin Hall designed the Tudor Revival building. The four-story brick building features limestone entrance and window surrounds, Tudor arched entrances to the courtyard, and a battlement along the roof.
The Jeffery–Cyril Historic District is a national historic district in the South Shore neighborhood of Chicago, Illinois. The district comprises a cluster of six apartment buildings on Jeffery Boulevard, 71st Place, and Cyril Avenue. All six buildings were built between 1927 and 1929. Apartments had become a popular housing choice for middle-class families by the 1920s, when South Shore was developed; due to zoning restrictions, however, the district is the only large group of apartments in the neighborhood. The apartments reflect the diversity of late 1920s architecture; in fact, while architect Paul F. Olsen designed three of the buildings, he used a different style for each of them. Five of the buildings use revival styles, which were popular at the time, with examples of Georgian Revival, Gothic Revival, Spanish Colonial Revival, and Tudor Revival designs; the remaining building features the then-emerging Art Deco style.
The East Park Towers are a historic apartment building at 5236-5252 S. Hyde Park Boulevard in the Hyde Park neighborhood of Chicago, Illinois. The building was constructed in 1922-23 during a period of residential growth in Hyde Park. While it had no guest rooms, the apartments offered similar amenities to an apartment hotel, such as housekeeping service. Apartment hotels were popular as part-time housing for wealthy workers, as they combined the amenities of in-home service with the affordability of apartments, and the East Park Towers were one of several such apartments built in Hyde Park at the time. Architect William P. Doerr designed the building in the Georgian Revival style; his design included terra cotta belt courses and quoins and Palladian windows on the first floor.
The Poinsettia Apartments are an apartment hotel at 5528 S. Hyde Park Boulevard in the Hyde Park neighborhood of Chicago, Illinois. Built in 1929, the building was the last of several apartment hotels built in Hyde Park during a period of residential development in the late 1910s and 1920s. Apartment hotels were popular among wealthier workers in the city at the time, as they combined the amenities and prestige of hotels with the affordability of apartments. The Poinsettia Apartments were both the smallest of the Hyde Park apartment hotels and the only building designed in the Spanish Colonial Revival style. Its design features pilasters spanning the height of the building, terra cotta ornamentation, and decorative window surrounds on the first two floors.
The Jackson Shore Apartments are a historic apartment building in the Hyde Park neighborhood of Chicago, Illinois. The building was built in 1916-18, at which time Hyde Park was a popular and growing neighborhood. Architects Rapp & Rapp, who were more famous for their work on theaters, designed the Classical Revival building; the style, which conveyed dignity and luxury to apartment-seekers, was a departure from their more elaborate theater designs. The eleven-and-a-half story building's design includes towers at the front corners, detailed stonework on the first floor, a bracketed stringcourse below the top floor, and a frieze above the top floor. The interior continues the classical theming with wood paneling and egg-and-dart molding. While many luxury apartment buildings were built in Hyde Park in the early 20th century, the Jackson Shore Apartments are one of the few well-preserved surviving examples.
The Strand Hotel is a historic apartment hotel at 6315-6323 S. Cottage Grove Avenue in the Woodlawn neighborhood of Chicago, Illinois. Opened in 1915, the hotel offered both traditional guest rooms and long-term residences for customers who sought luxury amenities in apartment-style housing. Architects Davis & Davis designed the Classical Revival building, which has a red brick exterior with a terra cotta clad first floor, piers outlined in terra cotta, and an entablature and cornice at its roof. The hotel included a restaurant and banquet hall, the latter of which was used as a live music venue for many years. Once part of a major commercial district in Woodlawn, the hotel is now one of its few remnants and the only surviving apartment hotel building in the neighborhood.
The Sheridan Park Historic District is a residential historic district in the Uptown neighborhood of Chicago, Illinois. Developed between 1891 and 1929, the district is a collection of single-family homes, small apartment buildings, and a handful of larger apartment hotels. The homes were built early in the district's development, with nearly all of them completed by 1910; at the time, the district was planned as a spacious suburb and categorized with North Shore communities. The apartments were all built in the twentieth century as the dense city core of Chicago expanded into the district. The district includes a large collection of six-flat apartments in particular; small apartments such as these, which were only three stories tall, fit neatly among the single-family houses of the original neighborhood.
