According to the 2010 census, the township has a total area of 39.94 square miles (103.4 km2), of which 39.35 square miles (101.9 km2) (or 98.52%) is land and 0.59 square miles (1.5 km2) (or 1.48%) is water. [4] The township includes the city of Crown Point as well as portions of the town of Cedar Lake.

Center Township residents are eligible to obtain a free library card from the Crown Point Community Public Library in Crown Point or Winfield. [7]
Center Township, along with Winfield Township, is served by the Crown Point Community School Corporation which includes Crown Point High School.
Merrillville is a town in Ross Township, Lake County, Indiana, United States. The population was 35,246 at the 2010 census. Merrillville is in east-central Lake County, in the Chicago metropolitan area. On January 1, 2015, Merrillville became the most populated town in Indiana, as Fishers in Hamilton County was converted from a town to a city. The town serves as a major shopping hub for Northwest Indiana.
St. John or Saint John is a town in Lake County, Indiana, United States. The town of St. John has homes in St. John Township, Hanover Township, and Center Township. St. John was founded in 1837. Winfield is a town in Winfield Township, Lake County, Indiana. The population was 2,298 at the time of the 2000 census, 4,383 in 2010, and 5,987 in 2019. The town was incorporated in 1993 in order to keep the residents from being annexed by other neighboring communities. Prior to that time it had been part of Winfield Township as an unincorporated town. Winfield is named for General Winfield Scott. The town is served by the Crown Point post office and addresses in Winfield share the Crown Point ZIP code.
