"Chanel" is a song by South African singer Tyla. Originally intended for inclusion on her second extended play, WWP, the track was instead released as a stand-alone single on 24 October 2025 through FAX and Epic Records. "Chanel" features production by Ian Kirkpatrick and P2J, both of whom additionally contributed to the songwriting, alongside Tyla, Douglas Ford, and Bardriia Bourelly.
Commercially, "Chanel" reached the top 20 in Malaysia, the Philippines, South Africa, Singapore, and the UAE, the top 40 in Australia and Nigeria and the top 50 in the Netherlands and Switzerland. On the Billboard Global 200, "Chanel" became Tyla's highest charting song since "Water" (2023), reaching number 30.[3] Lyrically, the song is about Tyla wanting to be treated like luxury by her lover. The song's accompanying music video sees Tyla "dancing, posing and strutting" while she wears vintage Chanel clothing.[4] She first performed the song live in full during the We Wanna Party tour in Tokyo on 11 November 2025.[5]
Background and release
At an exclusive fan listening event in Berlin in July 2025, Tyla unveiled two songs, "Dynamite" and "Chanel". Both were originally intended for inclusion on her second extended play (EP), WWP,[6] which was described by Tyla during an interview with Variety in August 2025, as "a bridge to the album".[7] The EP was released on 25 July 2025, and featured "Dynamite" as a collaboration with Wizkid, but did not include "Chanel".[8][9]
During her set at the Global Citizen Festival on 27 September 2025, in Central Park, New York, Tyla once again shared a preview of the song with its music video.[10][11] On 15 October 2025, Tyla announced on social media that "Chanel" would be released as a single on 24 October 2025, and shared a pre-save link.[11] The song's music video was released on the same day,[12] and features Tyla wearing vintage Chanel clothing from the "early 1990s to the mid-2010s", styled by Ron Hartleben.[13]
Controversy
After the song's release, American rapper Yung Miami, formerly of City Girls, took to X (formerly Twitter) to accuse Tyla of stealing her song.[14] She stated: "This girl really ran off with my song, and I don't know how to feel about it. Mind you, I played this song for her", accompanied by thinking emojis, before adding, "I'm confused!". Fans commented that Yung Miami had delayed releasing her own version of the song, to which she responded, "Don't matter it's my mf song!!!" She also mentioned that she had played the track for Tyla.[15] Tyla did not respond to the claims through a public response on social media or through her representatives.[16]
Composition
"Chanel" is an upbeat Afrobeats song, with elements of Amapiano and pop. In an interview with Vogue, Tyla described the song lyrically as "not only about spoiling me; it’s about being treated like luxury [and] being the gift".[17] Chris DeVille from Stereogum described "Chanel" as having a "hypnotic hook" and a "skittering beat", with the track having "contagious energy".[18]
Commercial performance
On the Billboard Global 200, "Chanel" reached number 30, becoming Tyla's highest charting entry since "Water" (2023).[3] In the United Kingdom, "Chanel" debuted at number 81 on the UK Singles Chart for the chart week ending 27 November 2025.[19] Four weeks later, it rose to a new peak of number 51.[20] In Switzerland, the song reached number 50 on the Swiss Singles Chart.[21] Elsewhere, "Chanel" peaked at number 31 in Australia,[22] and number 54 in Canada.[23] In the United States, "Chanel" reached number one on the Billboard Bubbling Under Hot 100 for the chart week ending 20 December 2025.[24]
