The Chery Tiggo 5x is a subcompact crossover SUV produced by the Chinese manufacturer Chery under the Tiggo crossover product series. The model also spawned an electric variant called the Chery Tiggo e, and shared the platform with the later introduced Cowin Showjet in 2019.
The Chery Tiggo 5x is the production version of the 2014 Chery Concept Beta concept car.
The production Chery Tiggo 5x was launched on the Chinese car market in the second half of 2017, positioned between the subcompact Chery Tiggo 3x and the compact Chery Tiggo 3. Much like the marketing position of the Tiggo 3x, the Tiggo 5x is the sportier version of the Tiggo 5 despite being a completely different model. [2] [3]
In China, the Tiggo 5x was sold with a lone engine option, a 1.5 litre inline-4 engine. [4] An electric variant called the Tiggo e was also offered in China equipped with a 53.6 kWh battery and delivering a range of 401 km / 251 miles (NEDC), with the Tiggo e drivetrain producing 95 kW ( 127 hp ) of power, and 250 N.m / 184 lb.ft of torque. The top speed of the 2019 Chery Tiggo e is 160 km/h / 100 mph, with 0 to 50 km/h acceleration in 3.9 seconds. [5]
A facelift was launched in 2019 featuring revised front and rear end designs with the front end sharing the same family front fascia with the Chery Tiggo 8. [6]
Another facelift was launched in 2020 featuring a further updated front fascia inline with the second generation Tiggo 7.
The Tiggo 5x was first introduced in Indonesia as the Tiggo 4 Pro in January 2022, [7] and originally scheduled to be launched in 2023, but was delayed in favor of the Omoda 5. [8] The model was launched at the 31st Indonesia International Motor Show in February 2024, reverting its name back to Tiggo 5x. It is available in two grade levels: Classic and Champion. Both were powered by a 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine. [9] It is locally assembled at Handal Indonesia Motor's facility in Bekasi, West Java.
The Tiggo 5x is rebadged and sold in Italy by importer DR Automobiles as the DR 5.0. It was launched in March 2020, initially based on the first facelifted Tiggo 5x that was launched in 2019. The 5.0 is offered in a sole variant, powered by a 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine, which can be also opted with the company's Thermohybrid bi-fuel (petrol/LPG) setup. [10] A turbocharged variant, powered by a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine mated with a 6-speed manual, was added in November 2020. [11] The facelifted model was revealed at the 2021 Milano Monza Open-Air Motor Show in June 2021, adopting the styling of the second facelifted Tiggo 5x that was launched in 2020. [12] Sales of the facelifted 5.0 were commenced in January 2022. [13]
Following the introduction of the facelifted 5.0, the pre-facelift 5.0 was renamed to the DR 4.0 in early 2022, [14] and was sold alongside the facelifted 5.0 until 2024.
Since 2023, the Tiggo 5x was also rebadged and sold by DR under the Sportequipe marque as the Sportequipe 5, which was first revealed at the 2022 Milano Monza Open-Air Motor Show in June 2022. [15] The Sportequipe 5 shares the same entire front end design as the non-Pro/Plus versions of the Chery Tiggo 8. It is powered by a 1.5-litre turbocharged engine that is available in either a petrol or the Thermohybrid bi-fuel (petrol/LPG) setup.
The Tiggo 5x is sold in Mexico as the Chirey Tiggo 4 Pro. [16] It was launched in October 2022. It is available in two trim levels: Comfort and Premium. All models were powered by a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine mated with a CVT transmission. [17]
In 2019, Modiran Vehicle Manufacturing Company (MVM) launched this car as the MVM X55 in the Iranian market. [18] This company also released the facelift model of this car in 2022 as the MVM X55 Pro. [19] This car was released in the Iranian market with two trims: Excellent and Excellent Sport. X55 in Iranian market is offered with a 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine paired with a 6-speed DCT automatic transmission. [20] but in X55 Pro, the engine combined with 9-speed CVT transmission. [21]
During 2021, the car was launched across the more countries of Middle-East as the Chery Tiggo 4 Pro. It is currently available in Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and UAE. [22] The Tiggo 4 is offered with a 1.5-litre petrol engine paired with a CVT transmission on the base, comfort and luxury models and with a 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine combined with a 6-speed DCT automatic transmission on the "flagship" model.
The Tiggo 5x was launched in Pakistan in March 2022 as the Tiggo 4 Pro, alongside the Tiggo 8 Pro. [23] It is locally assembled under license at Ghandhara Nissan's facility in Karachi. Production commenced on 31 March 2022. [24] [25]
The Tiggo 5x was launched in the Philippines in November 2019 alongside the Tiggo 2, Tiggo 7 and Tiggo 8, marking Chery's return to the Philippine market. [26] It is available in two variants: base and Luxury. Both were powered by a 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine. Base variants were paired with either a 5-speed manual or CVT, while the Luxury variant is only available with a standard CVT transmission. [27]
The facelifted model, marketed as the Tiggo 5x Pro, was revealed at the 17th Manila International Auto Show in April 2022. [28] The Hybrid variant of the Tiggo 5x Pro, powered by a 1.5-litre turbocharged 48V mild-hybrid petrol engine, was introduced at the 18th Manila International Auto Show in April 2023. [29] The entire Tiggo 5x Pro range was launched in July 2023. [30]
The Tiggo 5x was launched in Russia in February 2019 as the Tiggo 4. It is available in two grade levels: Comfort and Luxury. Both were powered by a 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine. [31]
Six months after its initial launch, the Tiggo 4 received a facelift in August 2019. The facelifted model is powered by a 2.0-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine, replacing the 1.5-litre unit in the pre-facelift model. The engine can be paired with either a 5-speed manual or CVT transmission. The facelifted model is initially available in three grade levels: Start, Comfort and Techno. [32] The Cosmo grade, powered by a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine mated with a 6-speed DCT, was added in October 2019. [33]
The Tiggo 4 received a minor update in August 2020; the 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine was re-introduced to the lineup, along with two new grade levels: Base and Luxury. The 2.0-litre naturally-aspirated engine on the Comfort grade was replaced by the 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated unit. [34]
To commemorate Chery's 15-year existence in the Russian market, the Limited Edition variant of the Tiggo 4 was made available respectively on the Techno and Cosmo grades in December 2020, with only 515 units were sold. [35] At the same time, the Start grade was dropped from the lineup. [36] In July 2021, the Tiggo 4 received two new grade levels; 1.5 Travel and 1.5T Trek. [37]
The Pro variant was launched in September 2022. [38] It is initially available in four grade levels: Action, Family, Travel and Style. The Action and Family grades were powered by a 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine, while the Travel and Style grades were powered by the turbocharged version of that same engine. All models were paired with a CVT transmission, with the Action grade can be also paired with an optional 5-speed manual. [39] The 1.5T Ultimate grade was added in January 2023. [40]
The regular Tiggo 4 was discontinued in July 2023. [41]
The Tiggo 4 Pro received a minor update in March 2024, which introduced an updated dashboard design and a new special edition model, the 18 Years Edition, to commemorate Chery's 18-year existence in the Russian market. [42]
The Tiggo 5x was launched in South Africa in 24 November 2021 as the Tiggo 4 Pro, as Chery's first model during the brand's re-entry to the South African market. At launch, it is initially available in four grade levels; Urban, Comfort, Elite, and Elite SE. The Urban and Comfort grades were powered by a 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine, while the Elite and Elite SE grades were powered by the turbocharged version of that same engine. Depending on the grade, transmission options includes a 5-speed manual (Urban), a 6-speed manual (Elite) and CVT (Comfort, Elite and Elite SE). [43]
The LiT base grade was added in September 2023. The LiT grade is only available with a 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine, paired with either a 5-speed manual or CVT. [44]
The Tiggo 5x is sold in select South American markets except Brazil as the Tiggo 4. It was launched in Chile in April 2018, [45] Ecuador in August 2018, [46] Colombia in October 2018, [47] and Argentina in December 2020. [48]
The Tiggo 5x was introduced in Brazil at the 30th São Paulo International Motor Show in November 2018, retaining its original name. [49] Brazilian models were launched in 11 December 2018. At launch, the Brazilian-spec Tiggo 5x is available in two trim levels: T and TXS. Both were powered by a 1.5-litre turbocharged flex-fuel engine mated with a 6-speed DCT. [50] Brazilian models are locally assembled at Caoa Chery's facility in Anápolis, Goiás. [51] It received a facelift in 21 February 2020. [52] The T trim was dropped from the lineup in April 2021. [53]
The second facelift of the Brazilian-spec model, renamed to Tiggo 5x Pro, was revealed in 17 February 2022, [54] and went on sale in the following end of that same month. [55] The second facelift introduced a CVT transmission, replacing the 6-speed DCT in the previous model year. The Hybrid variant of the Tiggo 5x Pro, powered by a 1.5-litre turbocharged 48V mild-hybrid flex-fuel engine, was launched in Brazil in July 2022, alongside the mild-hybrid version of the Tiggo 7 Pro. [56] In June 2023, the Brazilian-spec Tiggo 5x received an entry-level Tiggo 5x Sport variant, [57] while the Max Drive variant was added in the Hybrid version. [58]
The second facelifted Tiggo 5x was also launched as the Tiggo 4 Pro in other South American markets such as Argentina in August 2022, [59] Ecuador in September 2023, [60] and Colombia in November 2023. [61]

The Honda City is a subcompact car which has been produced by the Japanese manufacturer Honda since 1981.
The Nissan Almera is a line of automobiles that has been manufactured by the Japanese car manufacturer Nissan since 1995. For its early generations, the Almera is a compact car (C-segment), essentially being the European export-market version of the Pulsar for the first-generation model (N15), and the Bluebird Sylphy for the second-generation model (N16). Since the third-generation model (N17), the Almera nameplate was repositioned to a subcompact or B-segment saloon based on the V platform. The N17 Almera is marketed globally with the usage of five other nameplates for various markets.
The Hyundai Tucson is a compact crossover SUV produced by the South Korean manufacturer Hyundai. It is named after the city of Tucson, Arizona. It was originally known as the Hyundai JM when it was introduced in Japan in 2004.
The Honda HR-V is a subcompact crossover SUV (B-segment) manufactured and marketed by Honda over three generations.
The Toyota Vios is a nameplate used for subcompact cars produced by the Japanese manufacturer Toyota, primarily for markets in Southeast Asia, China and Taiwan since 2002. Slotted below the compact Corolla, the Vios serves as the replacement to the Tercel, which filled the subcompact or B-segment sedan class in the region. It is also successor to the entry-level variants of the E110 series Corolla in some markets such as the Philippines and Vietnam.
The Chevrolet Onix is a subcompact car launched by American automaker Chevrolet in Brazil at the 2012 São Paulo International Motor Show and the second generation in China at the 2019 Shanghai Auto Show. In Brazil, it was launched to replace the Chevrolet Corsa and some versions of the Chevrolet Celta. Mainly produced in General Motors Brazil’s plants in Gravataí and São Caetano do Sul, the Onix is a five-door hatchback. A sedan version is sold as the Chevrolet Onix Plus in Brazil, and as the Onix sedan in Colombia. The Onix has also been produced in Uzbekistan since 2022 by UzAuto Motors.
The Hyundai Creta, also known as Hyundai ix25 in China, is a subcompact crossover SUV produced by Hyundai since 2014 mainly for emerging markets, particularly BRICS. It is positioned above the Venue and below the Tucson in Hyundai's SUV line-up.
The MG ZS is a subcompact crossover SUV produced by the Chinese automotive manufacturer SAIC Motor under the British MG marque. Announced at the 2016 Guangzhou Auto Show in China, the MG ZS is the second SUV to be produced under the MG marque after the MG GS. It is positioned below the larger HS, and above the smaller MG 3 hatchback. It is currently the brand's best selling model in international markets.
The tenth-generation Honda Civic(FC/FK) is a compact car (C-segment) manufactured by Honda from 2015 until 2022, replacing the ninth-generation Civic. It was first released in November 2015 in the North American market, followed by its introduction in Europe and Asia-Pacific in 2016, and in Japan in 2017. This generation marked the unification of the Civic range, as Honda ceased making a dedicated version for the European market—a strategy employed since the seventh-generation Civic—in favour of a globally marketed model. As the result, three body styles were introduced with a near-identical design which are sedan, hatchback, and coupe.
The Chery Tiggo 3, or originally the Chery Tiggo, is a compact crossover produced by the Chinese manufacturer Chery since 2005. The original Tiggo first debuted at the 2005 Shanghai Motor Show and was called the NCV, meaning New Concept Vehicle. It is the first product of the Chery Tiggo series. The original vehicle was facelifted in September 2010, and received the name change to Tiggo 3 and another facelift in 2014.
The Chery Tiggo 3x is a subcompact crossover produced by Chery based on the Chery Fulwin 2 hatchback. It is called Chery Tiggo 2 in Brazil and Chile.
The Chery Tiggo 7 is a compact crossover SUV produced by Chery under the Tiggo product series. The first generation was launched in 2016, and a rebadged variant sold by Qoros was planned in 2017 which later became a facelift for the 2018 model year Tiggo 7 dubbed the Tiggo 7 Fly. The first generation Tiggo 7 also underpins the Exeed LX. The second generation model was launched in 2020 and was previewed by a design concept unveiled in 2019.
The Cowin X3 is a compact CUV produced by the Chinese manufacturer Cowin Auto since 2016.
The Roewe i5 is a subcompact car produced by SAIC Motor since 2017. Available as a sedan and as an electric station wagon, the latter was first introduced via the electric station wagon version, the Roewe Ei5, the compact station wagon debuted on the 2017 Guangzhou Auto Show.

The Chery Tiggo 8 is a series of three-row mid-size crossover SUV produced by Chery under the Tiggo product series. It is positioned between the smaller Tiggo 7 and the larger Tiggo 9. A more upclass variant with an updated styling called the Chery Tiggo 8 Plus was launched in 2020, which is marketed as the Chery Tiggo 8 Pro in overseas markets. Another newer variant with an altered styling called the Tiggo 8 Pro was introduced to the Chinese market in 2022.
The Chery Arrizo 5 Plus or previously the Chery Arrizo GX (艾瑞泽GX) is a compact sedan produced by Chery. The Arrizo GX was based on the Chery Arrizo 5 and debuted during the 2018 Beijing Auto Show. The GX was later renamed to Arrizo 5 Plus for the 2021 facelift right after the Arrizo EX changed the name back to the previous name, Arrizo 5. A performance variant called the Arrizo 5 GT was launched in September 2022.
The Exeed LX is a subcompact crossover produced by Chery under the Exeed premium brand.
The Chery Omoda 5 is a compact crossover SUV produced by Chery since 2022. The Omoda 5 is the first product of the Omoda product series, one of Chery's product line alongside the Tiggo series. The Omoda line will be joined by three future models, namely Omoda 3, Omoda 7 and Omoda 9. In several markets, the model is marketed as the Omoda C5 or simply Omoda 5, under the separate Omoda marque which is positioned more upmarket than the Chery brand.
