Daniel Mark Tomlinson (born July 1992) is a British Labour Party politician who has served as the Exchequer Secretary to the Treasury since 1 September 2025. He has been the Member of Parliament (MP) for Chipping Barnet in north London since 2024. [3] He defeated the Conservative Party incumbent Theresa Villiers. [4]
Tomlinson was educated at Wood Green School,a state comprehensive school in the market town of Witney,in Oxfordshire,followed by the University of Oxford,where he studied Philosophy,politics and economics. [5] Tomlinson worked for HM Treasury between 2015 and 2016 and for the Resolution Foundation between 2016 and 2022,and became a senior economist for the foundation. [6] He also worked at the Joseph Rowntree Foundation. [7]
Tomlinson was a councillor in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets from 2018 until 2022. [8] He did not stand for reelection in 2022 and Labour subsequently lost control of the council to Aspire. [9]
Inside Housing listed Tomlinson as one of eight newly elected MPs who would be advocates for the cause of social housing in the new Labour government. [7]
On 1 September 2025,Tomlinson was appointed as Exchequer Secretary to the Treasury in a ministerial reshuffle. [10] He replaced James Murray,who was promoted to Chief Secretary to the Treasury. [11]
