Joani Reid is a Scottish Labour Party politician who has served as the Member of Parliament (MP) for East Kilbride and Strathaven since July 2024.
Reid is a granddaughter of Jimmy Reid. She studied politics and philosophy at the University of Glasgow,then went to London for a Masters degree. [1]
She worked as a policy manager at the Academy of Medical Royal Colleges. [2]
Reid was a councillor for the Lewisham Central ward in Lewisham for eight years from 2014 and served as Cabinet Member for Safer Communities. [3] [1]
She was selected as the Labour candidate for East Kilbride and Strathaven in February 2023 and elected to the House of Commons at the 2024 general election. [4]
Reid has served as a member of the Home Affairs Select Committee since October 2024. [5] She is Chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group Against Antisemitism. [6]

South Lanarkshire is one of 32 unitary authorities of Scotland. It borders the south-east of the Glasgow City council area and contains some of Greater Glasgow's suburban towns,as well as many rural towns and villages. James Reid was a Scottish trade union activist,orator,politician and journalist born in Govan,Glasgow. His role as spokesman and one of the leaders in the Upper Clyde Shipbuilders work-in between June 1971 and October 1972 attracted international recognition. He later served as Rector of the University of Glasgow and subsequently became a journalist and broadcaster. Formerly a member of the Communist Party of Great Britain,Reid was later a member of the Labour Party. He moved on to supporting the Scottish Socialist Party in the late 1990s,then joined the Scottish National Party in 2005 and gave his full support to the idea of Scottish independence. He died in 2010 after a long illness.
Adam Paterson Ingram is a retired British Labour Party politician. He was the Member of Parliament (MP) for East Kilbride,then East Kilbride,Strathaven and Lesmahagow,from 1987 to 2010.

The group exists to "To combat antisemitism and help develop and seek implementation of effective public policy to combat antisemitism". After the 2024 general election,the group's chair is Joani Reid MP (Labour) and the vice-chairs are the MPs Christine Jardine,David Pinto-Duschinsky (Labour) and Saqib Bhatti (Conservative). Secretariat to the group is provided by the PCAA Foundation.
