The thirty-third season of Dancing with the Stars premiered on ABC and Disney+ on September 17, 2024. This season is the second to air live on both simultaneously, with next-day streaming made available on Hulu. Alfonso Ribeiro returned to host the season, while former professional dancer Julianne Hough returned to co-host. [1]
On August 22, 2024, Stephen Nedoroscik was the first celebrity participant announced for the season. [2] Anna Delvey joined the cast on August 30, as initially reported by Page Six ; Deadline Hollywood , The Independent , and Vanity Fair confirmed the report the following day. [3] [4] Although Delvey is currently under house arrest in East Village, Manhattan and facing deportation, she was granted permission from the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to travel to Los Angeles as her confinement terms were recently relaxed. [5] [6] Jenn Tran joined the cast immediately following the season 21 finale of The Bachelorette . [7] The full roster of celebrity participants and their partnerships was announced on September 4, via Good Morning America . [8] Nedoroscik and Ilona Maher are the first athletes from their respective disciplines, men's artistic gymnastics and rugby union, to compete in the series. [9] [10] Delvey is the first to wear an ankle monitor while competing. [11]
Three days after Lindsay Arnold confirmed that she would not be returning as a professional dancer, [12] Witney Carson announced on Good Morning America that she would return to the lineup after taking the previous season off. [13] Television advertisements for the season featured Emma Slater, Sasha Farber, Daniella Karagach, Pasha Pashkov, Britt Stewart, Alan Bersten, Rylee Arnold, and Brandon Armstrong. [14] Former troupe member Ezra Sosa was promoted to pro, as initially reported by entertainment journalist Kristyn Burtt and later confirmed by GLAAD. [15] [16] He is the first Latino professional dancer to be featured on the series in over a decade. [17]
After originally being scheduled to be in the troupe, Farber was announced as a professional dancer on the Good Morning America cast reveal. [18] He and Tran learned that they would be partnered together approximately 45 minutes before they boarded a flight to New York City. [7] Burtt also shared with Cheryl Burke that Jenna Johnson and the reigning champion Valentin Chmerkovskiy were slated to return; Koko Iwasaki will not. [15] Peta Murgatroyd chose to take the season off following the birth of her third child. [19] Artem Chigvintsev was not set to be a part of the cast when news broke of his arrest in Napa County, California for felony domestic violence against his wife, Nikki Garcia. [20]

As ABC tweaked its programming schedule to avoid conflicts with the vice presidential debate, the previously scheduled October 1, 2024 episode of Dancing with the Stars was preempted. [31] The network will instead hold a special two-night event on October 7 and October 8. [32]

Dancing with the Stars is an American dance competition television series that premiered on ABC on June 1, 2005. It is the American version of the British series Strictly Come Dancing, and one of several iterations of the Dancing with the Stars franchise. The show pairs celebrities with professional dancers. Each couple competes against the others for judges' points and audience votes. The couple receiving the lowest combined total of judges' points and audience votes is usually eliminated each week until only the champion dance pair remains. The series is hosted by Alfonso Ribeiro and Julianne Hough, with Carrie Ann Inaba, Derek Hough, and Bruno Tonioli serving as judges.

Witney Capri Carson McAllister is an American professional Latin ballroom dancer and choreographer. Carson continued her professional dancing career in early 2013 as a troupe dancer in seasons 16 and 17 of Dancing with the Stars. She was promoted to professional partner in season 18. In season 19, she and her partner Alfonso Ribeiro were announced the winners on November 25, 2014, making her one of six professional dancers to win the mirror ball trophy within their first two seasons. For that season, she received a nomination for the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Choreography. In 2019, she reunited with Ribeiro to co-host the reboot of Catch 21. Throughout her dance career, Carson has worked with dancers and choreographers such as Mia Michaels, Nappytabs, Travis Wall, Sonya Tayeh, Tyce Diorio, Mark Ballas, Derek Hough, and Stacey Tookey.
