Fang Fenghui (born April 1951) is a former top general in the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA). He served as the Chief of Joint Staff and a member of the Central Military Commission. He was placed under investigation for corruption in 2017 and subsequently convicted.
Fang was born Ma Xianyang (马咸阳) in Chidao Township,Xunyi County,Shaanxi Province. [2] His father Ma Guoxuan (马国选) was a military and government officer who died in 1960. [2] After his mother Fang Linjiang (房林江) remarried in Bin County,he renamed himself Fang Fenghui using his mother's surname. [2] [3] [4]
Fang joined the PLA in February 1968,at the height of the Cultural Revolution. He served in Xinjiang in his early career. He later served as commander of the Beijing Military Region (2007–2012). [5] and commander of Guangzhou Military Region (2003–2007). Fang achieved the rank of Major general in 1998,Lieutenant general in July 2005 and general in July 2010. He was appointed as the Chief of Joint Staff on October 25,2012,succeeding Chen Bingde;when the Joint Staff department was re-organized in 2016 as a new organ under the Central Military Commission,Fang continued his role as chief of the joint staff. During the 60th anniversary of the People's Republic of China,Fang served as the commanding officer of the military contingent during the inspection parade of then Central Military Commission chairman Hu Jintao.
In August 2017,Fang was placed under investigation for corruption. He was sent to military procuratorial organs in January 2018. [7] [8] He was expelled from the Communist Party on October 16,2018. [9] On February 20,2019,Fang was sentenced to life imprisonment for bribery. [10]
Fang was a member of the 18th Central Committee of the Chinese Communist Party.

He served as the Mayor of Guangzhou,one of China's most populous cities,from 2010 to 2011,and was then promoted to Communist Party Secretary,the top official of the city. Yang Baohua is a former Chinese politician from Hunan province. He served successively as the party chief of Yueyang,party chief of Changsha,and Vice-Chairman of Hunan People's Political Consultative Conference. He underwent investigation for corruption in 2014.
Ma Jian is a former Chinese security official. In January 2015,he was put under investigation by the Chinese Communist Party's Central Commission for Discipline Inspection. He served as the vice minister of State Security,and also vice president of the China Law Society. He was a member of the 12th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference,but is currently in prison serving a life sentence for corruption.
Gong Weiguo is a former Chinese politician who spent most of his career in south China's Hunan province. He was investigated by the Chinese Communist Party's anti-graft agency in April 2015. Previously he served as the Deputy Communist Party Secretary and Mayor of Linxiang.
Yu Yuanhui is a Chinese politician of ethnic Yao heritage who spent most of his career in Southwest China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. Until 2015,he served as the Communist Party Secretary of Nanning,capital of Guangxi,and was a Standing Committee member of the regional party organization. In May 2015,he was put under investigation by the Chinese Communist Party's anti-corruption agency. An alternate member of the Central Committee from 2007 until his downfall,Yu was duly expelled from the party and lost his Central Committee seat in 2015 and was sentenced to 11 years in jail.
Wang Jianping is a former general of the People's Liberation Army (PLA) of China. He served as commander of the People's Armed Police and deputy chief of General Staff of the People's Liberation Army. He was dismissed in 2016 and placed under investigation for corruption. He was a member of the 18th Central Committee of the Chinese Communist Party.

He is the second provincial-ministerial rank official sacked for graft from Zhejiang province in the anti-corruption campaign following the 18th Party Congress,after Si Xinliang.
Hu Zhiqiang is a former Chinese politician who spent most of his career in northwest China's Shaanxi province. He was investigated by the Chinese Communist Party's anti-graft agency in June 2018. Previously he served as Party Branch Secretary of Shaanxi Provincial Health and Family Planning Commission. He was a delegate to the 18th National Congress of the Chinese Communist Party.
