According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 35.7 square miles (92.4 km2), of which, 35.7 square miles (92.4 km2) is land and 0.04 square miles (0.1 km2) (0.06%) is water.
As of the census [2] of 2000, there were 563 people, 214 households, and 169 families residing in the town. The population density was 15.8 people per square mile (6.1/km2). There were 219 housing units at an average density of 6.1 per square mile (2.4/km2). The racial makeup of the town was 98.22% White, 0.18% African American, 0.18% Native American, 0.18% Pacific Islander, 0.53% from other races, and 0.71% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino people of any race were 0.71% of the population.
There were 214 households, out of which 32.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 70.1% were married couples living together, 4.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 20.6% were non-families. 16.8% of all households were made up of individuals, and 8.4% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.63 and the average family size was 2.93.
