David Hume was a Scottish Enlightenment philosopher, historian, economist, and essayist, who is best known today for his highly influential system of philosophical empiricism, scepticism, and naturalism. Hume's empiricist approach to philosophy places him with John Locke, George Berkeley, Francis Bacon and Thomas Hobbes as a British Empiricist. Beginning with his A Treatise of Human Nature (1738), Hume strove to create a total naturalistic science of man that examined the psychological basis of human nature. Against philosophical rationalists, Hume held that passion rather than reason governs human behaviour. Hume argued against the existence of innate ideas, positing that all human knowledge is founded solely in experience.

The surrounding area is part of the Parish of Colo which includes the villages of Aylmerton, Willow Vale, Alpine and Yerrinbool. Colo Vale has a mixed-business general store and many home-based businesses, including hairdressers, small manufacturing businesses and a large native plant nursery and a Public School on Wattle Street. The Sir Roden Cutler VC Memorial Interchange often shortened to Roden Cutler Interchange is a three-level motorway interchange located in Prestons, Edmondson Park & Casula which are south western suburbs of Sydney, Australia. The interchange forms the junction of the Westlink M7 and M5 South Western Motorway with the M31 Hume Motorway, opening to traffic in December 2005 along with the M7. It is a major urban feature of the National Highway network with roads linking Sydney south to Canberra and Melbourne and north to Newcastle and Brisbane converging at the interchange. As with many features of the Remembrance Driveway between Sydney and Canberra, the interchange is named in honour of an Australian Victoria Cross recipient. Sir Roden Cutler received the medal for gallantry in the face of the enemy while serving with the Royal Australian Artillery in Syria during World War II. He would later hold the office of Governor of New South Wales.

The park is bordered at its eastern tip, where Wellington and Front join, by the Gooderham Building, a heritage building that is an example of a "flatiron building". A widely admired mural graces the western facade of the building.
