'Ab Hoga Nyay'

Congress on Sunday 7 April 2019 launched its Lok Sabha campaign slogan 'Ab Hoga Nyay' (Now, There Will be Justice) by weaving a narrative around the "injustice" meted out to countrymen and "atmosphere of despair" prevailing in the country during the Narendra Modi government. [5]

Chowkidar Chor Hai

Chowkidar Chor Hai (Hindi : चौकीदार चोर है। is a Hindi slogan used by the Indian National Congress in its campaign for the 2019 Indian general election. The slogan was coined by the Congress' Prime Ministerial candidate Rahul Gandhi as a slogan against Narendra Modi, with the intention of conveying that the person who was entrusted with safeguarding public money was in fact a thief. [6]

General elections were held in India in nine phases from 7 April to 12 May 2014 to elect the members of the 16th Lok Sabha. With 834 million registered voters, they were the largest-ever elections in the world until being surpassed by the 2019 elections. Around 23.1 million or 2.7% of the total eligible voters were aged 18–19 years. A total of 8,251 candidates contested the 543 elected Lok Sabha seats. The average election turnout over all nine phases was around 66.40%, the highest ever in the history of Indian general elections.

The Indian general election of 2014 were held to constitute the 16th Lok Sabha in India. Voting took place in all 543 parliamentary constituencies of India to elect members of parliament in the Lok Sabha. The result of this election was declared on 16 May. The 15th Lok Sabha completed its constitutional mandate on 31 May 2014. Since the last general election in 2009, the 2011 Indian anti-corruption movement by Anna Hazare, and other similar moves by Baba Ramdev, have gathered momentum and political interest. Issues such as Inflation, price rise and corruption were some of the chief issues.

The Indian National Congress (INC) is one of the two major political parties in India. INC took part in the elections alongside other members of the United Progressive Alliance. Chowkidar Chor Hai is a Hindi slogan used by the Indian National Congress (INC) in its election campaign for the 2019 Indian general election. The slogan was coined by the then INC president, Rahul Gandhi, against the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) affiliated sitting Prime Minister Narendra Modi, after raising allegations of favouritism and price escalation in the Dassault Rafale deal. The slogan was coined with the intention of conveying that the person who was entrusted with safeguarding public money was in fact a thief; context being that PM Modi had in past claimed to be a "chowkidar"(Watchman in English) of the nation.

<i>Main Bhi Chowkidar</i> Hindi slogan used in 2019 Indian general election

Main Bhi Chowkidar is a Hindi slogan used by the Bharatiya Janata Party in its campaign for the 2019 Indian general election. The slogan was coined by the BJP's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi as a counter-slogan against the Indian National Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. Millions of BJP members changed their DPs and profiles to show their solidarity with Modi.

The Nyuntam Aay Yojana was a proposed social welfare programme by the Indian National Congress in its 2019 general election manifesto. It promised that the party, if voted to power in the 2019 Indian general election, would enact a law under which it would distribute cash to the bottom 20 per cent of India's families in terms of wealth, as a minimum guarantee programme. These households would each receive up to 72,000 (US$900) a year, a program the Congress claimed would benefit 250 million people in India.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Indian National Congress campaign for the 2024 Indian general election</span>

The Indian National Congress is known as the Grand Old Party of India. The party had ruled India for most of its post independence period for nearly 54 years. The party led coalition United Progressive Alliance is in opposition bench in 16th Lok Sabha and 17th Lok Sabha against the National Democratic Alliance. The party is contesting the elections with the promise of upholding Nyay (justice), secularism, federalism, pluralism, democracy and constitutionalism.

Rahul Gandhi, the leader of Indian National Congress, was disqalified as member of the Lower House of the Indian Parliament on 24 March 2023. The disqualifiaction followed a conviction by an Indian court, which sentenced Gandhi with two-year imprisonment, on the accusation of defaming prime minister Narendra Modi's surname. The conviction and defamation raised an alarm about the state of democracy in India and were seen as a move to silence dissent and political opposition before the upcoming 2024 general elections. In August 2023, the Supreme Court of India stayed his conviction. This would allow him to contest the next election. On 7 August a notification from Lok Sabha secretariat reinstated Rahul Gandhi to the parliament.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra</span>

Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra is a movement to be led by the Indian National Congress leader Rahul Gandhi which would start on 14 January 2024 from Imphal and end on 20 March 2024 in Mumbai spanning east-west of India. This campaign is aimed for the party's electoral engagement across the breadth of the country and is seen as a strategy for the upcoming national elections. This political tour will be sequel to the Bharat Jodo Yatra.
