At the top of the Indian football league system, it is the country's primary football competition and is contested by 12 clubs.     The 2019–20 Indian Super League season was the sixth season of the Indian Super League, one of the top Indian professional football leagues. The regular season began on 20 October 2019 and concluded on 14 March 2020.

    The 2020–21 Indian Super League season was the seventh season of the Indian Super League (ISL) since its formation and the 25th season of the top division of the Indian football league system. The season started on 20 November 2020 and ended on 13 March 2021. It was hosted behind closed doors across three venues in Goa due to the COVID-19 pandemic in India.

    The 2020–21 ATK Mohun Bagan FC season was the club's 1st season in Indian Super League and 131st season since its establishment in 1889. The club under a merged company competed in ISL, one of the top flights of Indian football, as well as in the AFC Cup.

    The 2020–21 Mumbai City FC season was the seventh season in the history of Indian Super League club Mumbai City. After failing to qualify for the playoffs the previous season, head coach Jorge Costa was relieved of his duties and replaced by Goa head coach Sergio Lobera.

    The 2020–21 NorthEast United FC season was the club's seventh season since its establishment in 2014 and their seventh season in the Indian Super League.

    The 2021–22 Indian Super League season was the eighth season of the Indian Super League (ISL) since its formation in 2013 and the 26th season of the top division of Indian football league system. The season started on 19 November 2021 and concluded with the final on 20 March 2022. Except for the final, it was hosted behind closed doors across three venues in Goa due to the COVID-19 pandemic in India.

    The 2021–22 season is the club's fifth season since its establishment in 2017, and their fifth season in the Indian Super League.

    The 2021–22 Mohun Bagan season was the club's 2nd season in Indian Super League and 132nd season since its establishment in 1889. The club though initially participated in the Calcutta Football League, later withdrew before the start of their campaign.

    The 2022–23 Indian Super League was the ninth season of the Indian Super League, the first season as the only top division, and the 27th season of top-tier Indian football. It commenced on 7 October 2022 and concluded with the final on 18 March 2023.

    The 2023–24 Indian Super League was the 10th season of the Indian Super League (ISL) and the 28th season of the top-tier in Indian football. It commenced on 21 September 2023 and concluded with the ISL Cup final on 4 May 2024.

    The 2022–23 Mohun Bagan season was the club's 3rd season in Indian Super League and 133rd season since its establishment in 1889. Due to lengthened schedule of 2022 AFC Cup, the knockout stage is moved to 2022–23 season from 2021–22 season as it is to be played in September 2022. Club also took part in 2022 Durand Cup and 2023 Indian Super Cup. The principle team owner, Sanjeev Goenka, announced after winning the 2023 Indian Super League Final that ATK Mohun Bagan will be rebranded as Mohun Bagan Super Giant from the next season.

    The 2022–23 Chennaiyin season is the club's Ninth season since its establishment in 2014 as well as their Ninth season in 2022–23 Indian Super League season.In addition to the league, they will also compete in the 2022 Durand Cup and AIFF Super Cup.

    The 2024 Kalinga Super Cup held in Odisha from January 9 to 28, 2024. A total of 16 teams, consisting of 12 ISL and 4 I-League, compete in the group stage to decide the 4 places in the knockout stage.
