James Akinola

James Olaoti Akinola was an Anglican bishop in Nigeria. [1] He was the pioneer Bishop of Igbomina-West, [2] one of eight in the Anglican Province of Kwara, itself one of 14 within the Church of Nigeria. [3]

He was elected as Bishop of Igbomina-West on 29 October 2009 at the Episcopal synod of the Church of Nigeria Anglican Communion held at the Basilica of Grace Apo in Gudu district of the Anglican Diocese of Abuja. [4]

He retired in 2016. [5]

The Church of Nigeria is the Anglican church in Nigeria. It is the second-largest province in the Anglican Communion, as measured by baptized membership, after the Church of England. It gives its current membership as "over 18 million", out of a total Nigerian population of 190 million.

Peter Jasper Akinola is the former Anglican Primate of the Church of Nigeria. Jeffrey John ultimately declined the appointment due to pressure.

The Ibadan Province is an ecclesiastical province of the Church of Nigeria. It was created when the division into ecclesiastical provinces was adopted in 2002, and it comprises 19 dioceses, 117 archdeaconries and 623 parishes. The present Archbishop of Ibadan Province is Segun Okubadejo, who is also the Bishop of the Diocese of Ibadan North. He succeeded Joseph Akinfenwa in 2013.
