Karate was introduced as a World Games sport at the 1981 World Games in Santa Clara, California. Karate has been a World Games sport in every edition of The World Games. There have been kata and kumite events at every edition of the games. [1]

The Asian Karate Federation (AKF) is the governing body of sport karate of about 44 countries of karatedo federation in Asia. The AKF is a non-profit organization and performs its activities on an amateur basis in compliance with the principles set forth in the Olympic Charter, duly recognized by the World Karate Federation, the largest international governing body of sport karate with over 198 member countries. The Gymnasiade, or World Gymnasiade, or World School Sport Games, or ISF World School Sport Games is an international multi-sport event which is organised by the International School Sport Federation (ISF). It is the largest event among many other sport events held by the ISF. Aligned with the philosophy of the organisation, only individuals between the ages of 13 and 18 are eligible to compete.

The European Universities Games (EUG) is an international multi-sport event, organized every two years for university athletes by the European University Sports Association (EUSA). Karate at the Islamic Solidarity Games has been contested at every edition of the event. In 2005, men's events were contested and starting in 2013, both men's and women's events were contested. The sport was also contested at the 2022 Islamic Solidarity Games in Konya, Turkey.

The African Karate Federation is the continental governing body of the sport karate in Africa. The UFAK is a non-governmental continental organisation. It has legal personality and financial autonomy. It is non-political, non-profit, non-denominational and cannot accept any racial or other discrimination and performs its activities on an amateur basis in compliance with the principles set forth in the Olympic Charter, duly recognised by the World Karate Federation (WKF), Association of African Sports Confederations (AASC), Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa (ANOCA).
