Karate has been a part of the Pan American Games since the 1995 Pan American Games in Mar del Plata, Argentina. There were eleven events, for both men (seven) and women (four), in this inaugural Pan Am event. [1]

The 1995 Pan American Games, officially known as the XII Pan American Games and commonly known as Mar del Plata 1995, were held in Mar del Plata, Argentina, from 12 to 26 March 1995. After 44 years, this was the Pan American Games' first return to the country that hosted the first Games, in 1951.
There were twelve karate events at the 2018 South American Games in Cochabamba, Bolivia. Six for men and six for women. The events were held between May 27 and 29 at the Coliseo Suramericano. The top 2 athletes in each event qualifying them to compete at the 2019 Pan American Games in Lima, Peru.
Karate competitions at the 2019 Pan American Games in Lima, Peru were held between August 9 and 11, 2019 at the Polideportivo Villa El Salvador, which also hosted the gymnastics competitions.

Sakura Kokumai is an American karateka. She won the gold medal in the women's individual kata event at the 2019 Pan American Games in Lima, Peru and the 2023 Pan American Games in Santiago, Chile. She represented the United States in the women's kata event at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan.
Marianth Cuervo Baute is a Venezuelan karateka. She won one of the bronze medals in the women's kumite 68 kg event at the 2019 Pan American Games held in Lima, Peru.
Wendy Mary Ann Mosquera is a Colombian karateka. She won the silver medal in the women's kumite 68 kg event at the 2023 Pan American Games held in Santiago, Chile. She won one of the bronze medals in her event at the 2019 Pan American Games held in Lima, Peru.
Kathryn Campbell is a Canadian karateka. She won the silver medal in the women's kumite -55 kg event at the 2019 Pan American Games held in Lima, Peru. She also won the silver medal in this event at the 2015 Pan American Games held in Toronto, Canada. In both events Valéria Kumizaki of Brazil won the gold medal.

Cirrus Lingl is an American karateka. She won one of the bronze medals in the women's kumite +68 kg event at the 2019 Pan American Games held in Lima, Peru.
Valéria Kumizaki is a Brazilian karateka. She won the silver medal in the women's kumite 55 kg event at the 2016 World Karate Championships held in Linz, Austria. She is also a two-time gold medalist in her event at the Pan American Games.
Alexandra Vanessa Grande Risco is a Peruvian karateka. She is a two-time gold medalist in the women's 61 kg event at the Pan American Games. She also won bronze in this event at the 2021 World Karate Championships in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. In 2021, Grande represented Peru at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan. She competed in the women's 61 kg event.
Omaira Molina is a Venezuelan karateka. She won the silver medal in the women's kumite +68 kg event at the 2019 Pan American Games held in Lima, Peru.

Brian Irr is an American karateka. He won the gold medal in the men's kumite +84 kg event at the 2019 Pan American Games held in Lima, Peru. In the final, he defeated Daniel Gaysinsky of Canada.
Thomas Scott is an American karateka. He won one of the bronze medals in the men's 75 kg event at the 2021 World Karate Championships held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. He is also a three-time gold medalist in the men's 75 kg event at the Pan American Games. He won the silver medal in this event at the 2011 Pan American Games.
Trinity Allen is an American karateka. She won the silver medal in the women's 55 kg event at the 2021 World Karate Championships held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. In the semi-finals, she was injured by her opponent which left her unable to compete in the final and, as a result, she was awarded the silver medal. Two weeks later, she won the gold medal in her event at the 2021 Junior Pan American Games held in Cali, Colombia.
Douglas Santos Brose is a Brazilian karateka. He is a three-time gold medalist in the men's kumite 60 kg event at the World Karate Championships. He also won the gold medal in the 2009 World Games, the 2015 Pan American Games, as well as being an eight-time Pan American Karate Championships champion.
