Kasba Peth Assembly constituency is one of the constituencies of Maharashtra Legislative Assembly, in India. [1] It is constituency is located in the Pune district and is a segment of Pune (Lok Sabha constituency).

Contents

It was considered a stronghold of the Bharatiya Janata Party, as it had elected BJP MLAs from 1995 to 2019, however the constituency elected the Indian National Congress politician Ravindra Dhangekar in a by-poll in 2023, upturning this trend.

The Maharashtra Legislative Assembly is the lower house of the legislature of the Indian state of Maharashtra. It is situated in the Nariman Point area of South Mumbai in the capital Mumbai. Presently, 288 members of the Legislative Assembly are directly elected from the single-seat constituencies.

Ravindra Vishwanath Gaikwad is an Indian politician associated with Shiv Sena, and was a member of the 16th Lok Sabha of India from 2014 to 2019 as a member of that party. He did not contest Lok Sabha elections in 2019. In 2014, he had contested from Osmanabad constituency of Maharashtra, and defeated sitting MP Padamsinha Bajirao Patil who contested from Nationalist Congress Party by 235,325 votes by obtaining 607,699 votes against 373,374. Before 2014, he was a two time MLA from omerga constituency. He has also been the Chairman of Killari Sugar Factory. He is a director on the agriculture board committee in the Central Government of India. His son Kiran Ravindra Gaikwad lost the Zilla parishad Osmanabad election from kunhali constituency. The loss to prakash Ashte was widely discussed in media.

Girish Bapat was an Indian politician who served as a member of Parliament in the 17th Lok Sabha. He was elected to the Lok Sabha, lower house of the Parliament of India from Pune, Maharashtra in the 2019 Indian general election as a member of Bharatiya Janata Party. Earlier he served as the Cabinet Minister for Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Protection, Food and Drugs Administration and Parliamentary Affairs in the First Fadnavis ministry. He was a member of 13th Maharashtra Legislative Assembly and one of the top Bharatiya Janata Party leaders in Vidhan Sabha. He was elected from Kasba Peth constituency to the Vidhan Sabha in five consecutive elections since 1995.

Ravindra Dhangekar is an Indian National Congress politician from Pune who has been serving as a member of the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly from Kasba Peth Assembly constituency since March 2023 when he won the seat in a byelection that was necessitated by the death of the incumbent BJP MLA Mukta Tilak. Dhangekar winning the seat on a Congress ticket was considered a significant upset, as the seat had consistently been held by the BJP for 28 years since 1995, and was considered a stronghold of the BJP. Ravindra Dhangekar won with 52.98 percent of votes, garnering 10,915 votes more than his opponent Hemant Rasane.
