Khatib is a subzone of Yishun, Singapore. It is bounded by Yishun Avenue 1/2/3 to the south, east and north respectively, and Sembawang Road to the west.
Khatib was named after the nearby Sungei Khatib Bongsu, located in Yishun East Subzone. The name "Khatib" originates from Arabic (Arabic : خاطب), referring to the person who delivers the sermon during Friday prayers and Eid Prayers. In most of the early- and mid-20th century Khatib was mostly used for pineapple, rubber and gambier plantations owned by Lim Nee Soon, from which Yishun residential town is named. [2]
Khatib MRT Station: A Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) station serving as a transportation hub in the area. Located south of Yishun MRT station on the North South line. It was formerly named Nee Soon South MRT station but was renamed to Khatib in January 1987 after Sungei Khatib Bongsu and Khatib Camp. [5] [6]
A small local park, called Yishun Park @ N8, is located beside Blk 810, Yishun Ring Rd. [7] The park includes a fitness corner, playground and a running track. Two schools, Peiying Primary School and Naval Base Secondary School, can be found in Khatib, along with Khatib camp, a military base. [8] Places of worship in Khatib include Teong Siew Wei Ling Dong Shan Temple. [9]
Khatib is a subzone located within the larger Yishun planning area in Singapore. Khatib is currently part of the Nee Soon South Parliamentary Constituency within the Nee Soon Group Representation Constituency (GRC), helmed by the current ruling party, People's Action Party (PAP). Nee Soon South Parliamentary Constituency is overseen by Member of Parliament Carrie Tan.
The North–South Line (NSL) is a high-capacity Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) line in Singapore, operated by SMRT Corporation. Coloured red on the Singapore rail map, the line is 45 kilometres (28 mi) long and serves 27 stations, 11 of which, between the Bishan and Marina South Pier stations, are underground. It runs from Jurong East station, located in Western Singapore, to Marina South Pier station in the Central Area, via Woodlands station in northern Singapore. The line operates for almost 20 hours a day, with headways of up to 1 to 2 minutes during peak hours and 5 to 8 minutes during off-peak hours. All the trains on the North–South Line run with a six-car formation.

It is currently located at Level 4, North Wing of Northpoint City and serves the areas of Yishun, Khatib and Canberra. The target community includes residents of Chong Pang, Nee Soon Central, Nee Soon East and Nee Soon South.
Nee Soon Constituency was a single member constituency in the northern area in Singapore that was created in 1959 general elections and ceased to exist prior to 1988 general elections.
Nee Soon South Single Member Constituency was a single member constituency (SMC) consisting of Yishun's Neighbourhood 8 (Khatib), part of Neighbourhood 7, near Springleaf MRT station, houses and condominiums along Kebun Baru and private residential areas along Sembawang Road. It was formed in 1988 after Nee Soon Constituency was split up into several SMCs. It was merged into Ang Mo Kio Group Representation Constituency (GRC) in 1997.
Chong Pang is a housing estate located in the subzone of Yishun West along the Sembawang–Yishun boundary in the town of Yishun, Singapore. It was named after the former Chong Pang village. It has precincts of Neighbourhood 1, part of Neighbourhood 7 and private residential areas along Sembawang Road.
Canberra MRT station is an elevated Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) station on the North–South line, located along Canberra Link at the junction with Canberra Way in Sembawang, Singapore. It is the second infill station on the MRT network, and the first in Singapore with a platform linked directly to an overhead bridge at the same level. With several green features included in the station during construction, it was also the first MRT station to be awarded Platinum for the Building and Construction Authority's Green Mark for Transit Stations, as a result of the construction team's efforts to integrate landscaping and using eco-friendly materials in the construction of the station.
Canberra Plaza is a New Generation Neighbourhood Centre (NGNC) built by the Housing & Development Board (HDB), the government agency in charge of public housing development in Singapore. It is one of the new Neighbourhood Centres (NCs) constructed by HDB in 10 years after the completion of Pioneer Mall and Punggol Plaza in 2004. CNN reported that Canberra Plaza will provide a "complete live-work-play-learn environment for residents and signifies Singapore's public housing for the future".
Sungei Kadut MRT station is a future Mass Rapid Transit interchange station on the North South (NSL) and Downtown (DTL) lines, located in Sungei Kadut, Singapore. First announced as a provisional station on the NSL Woodlands Extension in the 1990s, plans for its construction was eventually confirmed in the Land Transport Master Plan (LTMP) 2040 by the Land Transport Authority (LTA).
