This is a list of the States of India ranked by the length of the national highways, as of 23 May 2014. [1] National Highways are the arterial roads of the country for inter-state movements of goods and passengers. They traverse the length and width of the country connecting the National and State capitals, major ports and rail junctions and link up with border roads and foreign highways

Ranked by Length of State Highways

This is a list of the States of India ranked by the length of the state highways, as of 31 March 2012. [3] State Highways are the arterial roads in a State for inter-district movements. They traverse the length and width of a state connecting the state capital, district headquarters and important towns and cities and link up with the National Highways and adjacent State Highways.

Roads in India Overview of roads in India

Roads are an important mode of transport in India. India has a network of over 6,215,797 kilometres (3,862,317 mi) of roads as of 31 March 2020. This is the second-largest road network in the world, after the United States with 6,853,024 kilometres (4,258,272 mi). At of roads per square kilometre of land, the quantitative density of India's road network is equal to that of Hong Kong, and substantially higher than the United States, China, Brazil and Russia. Adjusted for its large population, India has approximately 5.13 kilometres (3.19 mi) of roads per 1,000 people, which is much lower than United States 20.5 kilometres (12.7 mi) but higher than that of China 3.6 kilometres (2.2 mi). India's road network carries over 71 percent of its freight and about 85 percent of passenger traffic.

National Highways Development Project

The National Highways Development Project (NHDP) is a project to upgrade, rehabilitate and widen major highways in India to a higher standard. The project was started in 1998 under the leadership of Prime Minister, Atal Bihari Vajpayee. National Highways account for only about 2% of the total length of roads, but carry about 40% of the total traffic across the length and breadth of the country. This project is managed by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) under the Ministry of Road, Transport and Highways. The NHDP represents 49,260 km of roads and highways work and construction in order to boost economic development of the country. The government has planned to end the NHDP program in early 2018 and consume the ongoing projects under a larger Bharatmala project.

Ministry of Road Transport and Highways Government ministry in India

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) is a ministry of the Government of India, that is the apex body for formulation and administration of the rules, regulations and laws relating to road transport, transport research and in also to increase the mobility and efficiency of the road transport system in India. Through its officers of Central Engineering Services (Roads) cadre it is responsible for the development of National Highways of the country. Road transport is a critical infrastructure for economic development of the country. It influences the pace, structure and pattern of development. In India, roads are used to transport over 60 percent of the total goods and 85 percent of the passenger traffic. Hence, development of this sector is of paramount importance for India and accounts for a significant part in the budget.

National Highway 313 (India)

National Highway 313 is a National Highway in North East India that connects Meka, near Roing and Anini in Arunachal Pradesh. It is a spur road of National Highway 13. NH-313 traverses the state of Arunachal Pradesh in India. This highway connects remotely located town of Anini, which is the headquarter of Dibang Valley district.

National Highway 713, commonly referred to as NH 713 is a National Highway in North East India. It is a spur road of National Highway 13. NH-713 traverses the state of Arunachal Pradesh in India. This highway connects Joram and Koloriang via Palin in Arunachal Pradesh.
