Overview

Melrose Resources plc was an independent upstream oil and gas E&P company founded in 1992, it was first listed on the London Stock Exchange in 1999. The company was headquartered in Edinburgh, UK with international offices in the countries where its operations were located. Its activities were focused on Egypt, Bulgaria, France, Romania, Turkey and the United States. The company merged with Petroceltic International in 2012.

History

The Company was formed in 1992 by Robert Adair to exploit international oil opportunities. It was first listed. In 2004 the company successfully developed the Galata gas field in Bulgaria. In 2006, the company acquired Merlon Petroleum, an oil business with which it shared interests in Egypt. [1]

In October 2012, Melrose Resources merged with Dublin-based Petroceltic International plc in a share for share deal worth $222m, this added new exploration assets in Algeria, Kurdistan and Italy to the existing Melrose portfolio and formed an enlarged oil and gas exploration and production company. [2] Petroceltic was acquired by Worldview Capital Management, a Cayman Island based financial fund in June 2016.

On 8 April 2015, Royal Dutch Shell announced that it had reached an agreement to acquire BG Group for $70 billion, subject to regulatory and shareholder agreement. The sale was completed on 15 February 2016. Prior to the takeover, BG Group was listed on the London Stock Exchange and was a constituent of the FTSE 100 Index. In the 2015 Forbes Global 2000, BG Group was ranked as the 583rd largest public company in the world.

Talisman Energy Inc. was a Canadian multinational oil and gas exploration and production company headquartered in Calgary, Alberta. It was one of Canada's largest independent oil and gas companies. Originally formed from the Canadian assets of BP Canada Ltd. it grew and operated globally, with operations in Canada and the United States of America in North America; Colombia, South America; Algeria in North Africa; United Kingdom and Norway in Europe; Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam, Papua New Guinea, East Timor and Australia in the Far East; and Kurdistan in the Middle East. Talisman Energy has also built the offshore Beatrice Wind Farm in the North Sea off the coast of Scotland.

The corporation is a Navratna with its corporate offices in Noida in the New Delhi-NCR region.

Premier Oil plc is an independent UK oil company with gas and oil interests in the UK, Asia, Africa and Mexico. It is devoted entirely to the 'upstream' sector of the industry - the exploitation of oil and gas - as opposed to the 'downstream' refining and retail sector. It is listed on the London Stock Exchange.

APA Corporation American energy company

APA Corporation is the holding company for Apache Corporation, a company engaged in hydrocarbon exploration. It is organized in Delaware and headquartered in Houston. The company is ranked 465th on the Fortune 500.

Pharos Energy

Pharos Energy Plc, previously SOCO International, is an oil and gas exploitation and production company, headquartered in London. The company changed its name to Pharos Energy Plc in October 2019 after coming under fire for illegal activity in Virunga.

Noble Energy, Inc. was a company engaged in hydrocarbon exploration headquartered in Houston, Texas. In October 2020, the company was acquired by Chevron Corporation.

Dana Petroleum

Dana Petroleum plc is an oil and gas exploration and production company based in Aberdeen, Scotland. Its activities are focused on the North Sea, Africa and The Middle East. It is a subsidiary of the Korea National Oil Corporation and is a former constituent of the FTSE 250 Index.

JKX Oil & Gas

JKX Oil & Gas plc is a British-based hydrocarbon exploration and production company, listed on the London Stock Exchange. JKX operates primarily in Russia and Ukraine, but has a presence in six other countries in Europe and North America. In June 2011, VTB Capital plc, a subsidiary of Russian state bank VTB, increased its share in JKX Oil & Gas to 6.4%. The deal makes VTB bank the fourth largest shareholder in the company. Ihor Kolomoyskyi, the co-owner of Privat Group, remains the largest shareholder in JKX with a 27.06% stake.

Heritage Oil

Heritage Oil is an independent Jersey-based oil and gas exploration and production company. Its activities are focused on Africa, the Middle East and Russia. In June 2014, the company was acquired by a fund owned by the former chief executive of Qatar's sovereign wealth fund.

Oando Plc is a Nigerian multinational energy company operating in the upstream, midstream and downstream.

Vanoil Energy is a multinational corporation that was active in oil exploration in Kenya and Rwanda but headquartered in Vancouver, British Columbia. The company was founded in September 2009 as a spin off of Vangold Resources' oil and gas assets, which at the time consisted of exploration and evaluation rights in Kenya and Rwanda and a farmout agreement on a well in Alberta, though the farmout agreement expired in 2011. The company pursued seismic exploration activities in both Kenya and Rwanda with funds received through stock offerings. Vanoil's involvement in Rwanda ended in 2013 with the expiry of their exploration and evaluation contract with the Rwanda government. After Kenya refused to extend its agreements with Vanoil's after they expired Vanoil entered in international arbitration in 2014 seeking compensation for losses However, on 1 October 2014, Vanoil announced that it had commenced international arbitration against the Government of Kenya.

The Galata gas field is a natural gas field located on the continental shelf of the Black Sea approximately 25km Southeast of Varna, Bulgaria. The field was the first to be developed offshore Bulgaria, and at peak production provided more than 16% of Bulgaria's domestic gas needs, the platform and associated infrastructure is still the only production facility located in the Bulgarian Black Sea.

Cove Energy plc

Cove Energy plc, also known as Cove, was a London-headquartered oil & gas exploration company with assets in East Africa. The company was created in June 2009. In 2012, following significant gas discoveries offshore Mozambique, Royal Dutch Shell and PTT Exploration and Production (PTTEP), a subsidiary of Thailand's national oil company PTT Public Company Limited, engaged in a prominent bidding war to acquire Cove. Ultimately, the company was sold in August 2012 to PTTEP.
