Aggreko is a global supplier of mobile and modular power, temperature control equipment and energy services, headquartered in Glasgow, Scotland. Aggreko was founded in The Netherlands by Luc Koopmans in 1962. [5] It moved to Scotland in 1973. [5] In 1984, it was acquired by Christian Salvesen plc in 1984, a Scottish transport and logistics company. [5] [8]

In 2021, the company supplied temporary power to the Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan, providing power to over 40 competition venues, the international broadcast centre and the athletes’ village in a contract worth £230 million. [35]
In 2022, the company supplied temporary power to the COP26 Conference in Glasgow, Scotland, and the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, UK. The Aggreko Power Station (2003-2012) was a temporary 20-megawatt fuel oil-fired power station in Sri Lanka. It was commissioned in October 2003 after power generation company Aggreko won an open bid offered by the Ceylon Electricity Board to overcome the Sri Lanka energy crisis faced in the 1990s to early 2000s. It was decommissioned on 31 December 2012. Prior to decommissioning, Aggreko sold electricity to the Ceylon Electricity Board at a rate of Rs. 26 per KWh.

The Syama Hybrid Power Station is a planned 70 megawatts hybrid power plant in Mali. The power station is being developed by Aggreko, a company that is based in Glasgow, Scotland, United Kingdom, which supplies temporary power generation equipment. The off-taker is Syama Gold Mine, owned by Resolute Mining, that is based in Perth, Western Australia. The station has thermal, battery storage and solar energy components. Aggreko signed a 16-year agreement with the owners of the gold mine to design, build, operate and maintain this hybrid power station. Under the same agreement, Syra Gold Mine will purchase the electricity generated by the new hybrid plant, as specified in the power purchase agreement.
