Michael Corcoran was the Roman Catholic Bishop of Kildare and Leighlin from 1815 until his death in 1819.

Biography

A native of Co. Laois, he served on mission in Dublin before being appointed as the parish priest of Balyna, Co. Kildare [1] before being appointed parish priest in Kildare in 1802. During his time in Kildare he worked to calm tensions leading up to and after the 1798 Rebellion, with efforts such as liaising with the Church of Ireland priest there to avoid trouble between their parishioners; he also disciplined a priest in his parish, Fr. Mogue Kearns, for the latter's rebel sympathies. [2]

Following the death of Bishop Daniel Delany of Kildare and Leighlin in 1814, Arthur Murphy was appointed but this appointment was not accepted.[ clarification needed ] In 1815, Corcoran was appointed Bishop of Kildare and Leighlin. [3]

Corcoran died on 22 February 1819. He is buried in Tullow. [4]

James Warren Doyle, O.E.S.A. (1786–1834) was a Roman Catholic Bishop of Kildare and Leighlin in Ireland, who used the signature "JKL", an acronym from "James Kildare and Leighlin." Doyle was active in the Anti-Tithe movement. A campaigner for Catholic Emancipation until it was attained in 1829, he was also an educator, church organiser and the builder of Carlow cathedral.

Francis Haly (1783–1855) was the Roman Catholic Bishop in Kildare and Leighlin from 1838 until his death in 1855. He was born in Doonane, in Co. Laois and entered Maynooth College in 1807 to train as a priest. Initially he served as a curate in Rathvilly in Co. Carlow. He succeeded Bishop Edward Nolan to the see of Kildare and Leighlin in 1838.

Bishop Edward Nolan (1793-1837) was the Roman Catholic bishop in Kildare and Leighlin from 1834 until his death in 1837.
