Mingela is a town and locality in the Charters Towers Region, Queensland, Australia. [1] [2]
The area was originally called Cunningham and then Ravenswood Junction. However, when the Ravenswood branch railway closed on 16 March 1931, the railway station was then renamed Mingela (an Aboriginal word meaning a string of waterholes). [1]
The locality of Mingela was created on 8 July 2016 by combining the former locality of Crimea with parts of Ravenswood, Reid River and Dotswood. [2]
The Mingela branch of the Queensland Country Women's Association meets at the CWA Hall on the corner of Ravenswood Street and Towers Street. [3]
Charters Towers is a town within the Charters Towers Region in northern Queensland, Australia. It is 134 kilometres (83 mi) inland (south-west) from Townsville on the Flinders Highway. At the 2016 census the population was 8,120 people. During the last quarter of the 19th century the town boomed as the rich gold deposits under the city were developed.
