Mohammed Magoro (born 7 May 1941) is a retired Major General of the Nigerian army who was twice a government minister,under Generals Obasanjo and Buhari. In the April 2011 elections he was elected Senator for the Kebbi South constituency of Kebbi State,Nigeria.
Magoro was born in Kebbi State,a member of the Zuru ethnic minority. [1] He was a graduate of Bida Provincial School,a classmate of Mamman Jiya Vatsa and Ibrahim Babangida. He joined the Nigerian Army on 10 December 1962 alongside Ibrahim Babangida and Sani Abacha,when he enrolled at the Nigeria Military Training College. [2]
Magoro was appointed Federal Commissioner of Transport during the Military administration of General Olusegun Obasanjo in 1978. [3] He became Minister for Internal Affairs under Major General Muhammadu Buhari,the military ruler from January 1984 to August 1985. [4] He was also a member of the Supreme Military Council. [3] As Minister for Internal Affairs,in May 1985 he oversaw the exodus of close to a million foreign nationals from Nigeria. Half had come from Ghana,and the rest from other West African countries where they were escaping from drought and starvation. [5]
Magoro was not retained as minister under Ibrahim Babangida's new regime which took power in August 1985,but was appointed head of the Nigerian National Shipping Line,the Nigerian Railways and Nigerian Ports Authority. After his retirement in 1995 he took to public service and thereafter became the Chairman of Ocean and Oil Services Ltd. [3]
Magoro became Chairman of the Oando group in 2000,a petroleum marketing company created through privatization of Unipetrol Nigeria Plc.,in which Ocean and Oil Services bought a major share. [3] In November 2001 Magoro was an influential member of the Board of Trustees of the People's Democratic Party (PDP). [4] In the run up to the April 2007 elections for Kebbi State governor,Magoro was at first declared the PDP candidate but later was replaced by Alhaji Saidu Dakingari. When Dakingari went on to be elected,the rival parties disputed the validity of the election on the basis that he had been filed as a candidate on 5 February 2007 but had not formally joined the party until 10 February 2007. In the January 2011 PDP primary election in Zuru for Senatorial candidate for Kebbi South,Magoro defeated the incumbent,Senator Tanko Ayuba. [7] Mogoro won the election on 9 April 2011 with 125,940. The runner-up was Abubakar S. Yelwa of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC),who won 94,147 votes. [8]
Sani Abacha was a Nigerian general who ruled as the military head of state of Nigeria from 1993 until his death in 1998. He seized power on 17 November 1993 in the last successful coup d'etat in the military history of Nigeria. He was the Chief of Army Staff between 1985 to 1990;Chief of Defence Staff between 1990 to 1993;and Minister of Defence. Abacha became the first Nigerian Army officer to attain the rank of a full military general without skipping a single rank.

Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida is a retired Nigerian Army general and politician. He served as military president of Nigeria from 1985 until his resignation in 1993. He rose through the ranks to serve from 1984 to 1985 as Chief of Army Staff;going on to orchestrate his seizure of power in a palace coup d'ètat against Muhammadu Buhari.
Abubakar Dangiwa Umar was governor of Kaduna state in Nigeria from August 1985 to June 1988 during the military regime of General Ibrahim Babangida. After retiring from the army in 1993,he became a social critic and the founder of Movement for Unity and Progress,a political party.

Jerry Gana,is a Nigerian scholar,politician and one time senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in 1983 then Director for the Directorate of Food,Roads and Infrastructure (DFRRI).He was the director of the Mass Mobilization for Social Justice and Economic Recovery,popularly known as MAMSER under Ibrahim Babangida,then Minister of Agriculture and Natural Resources,in the Interim National Government under Ernest Shonekan. Jonathan Tunde Ogbeha is a Nigerian politician and retired brigadier general who served as the administrator of Akwa Ibom State and then of Bendel State during the military rule of General Ibrahim Babangida (1985–1993). After the return to democracy in 1999,he was elected senator for the Kogi West constituency of Kogi State from May 1999 to May 2007. A biography on Ogbeha titled "Jonathan Tunde Ogbeha:A Noble Path" was written by Innocent Nzeke Waniko,a journalist,and presented publicly on 1 September 2017. The book chronicles the early life and comprehensively captures the life and career of Ogbeha.

Abdulkareem Adisa was a Nigerian major general who was military governor of Oyo State during the military regime of General Ibrahim Babangida. The 2023 Kebbi State gubernatorial election will take place on 11 March 2023,to elect the Governor of Kebbi State,concurrent with elections to the Kebbi State House of Assembly as well as twenty-seven other gubernatorial elections and elections to all other state houses of assembly. The election will be held two weeks after the presidential election and National Assembly elections. Incumbent APC Governor Abubakar Atiku Bagudu is term-limited and cannot seek re-election to a third term.
The 2023 Nigerian Senate elections in Kebbi State will be held on 25 February 2023,to elect the 3 federal Senators from Kebbi State,one from each of the state's three senatorial districts. The elections will coincide with the 2023 presidential election,as well as other elections to the Senate and elections to the House of Representatives;with state elections being held two weeks later. Primaries were held between 4 April and 9 June 2022.
