Sani Abacha was a Nigerian general who ruled as the military head of state of Nigeria from 1993 until his death in 1998. He seized power on 17 November 1993 in the last successful coup d'etat in the military history of Nigeria. He was the Chief of Army Staff between 1985 to 1990;Chief of Defence Staff between 1990 to 1993;and Minister of Defence. Abacha became the first Nigerian Army officer to attain the rank of a full military general without skipping a single rank.

After the return to democracy in 1999,he was elected senator for the Kogi West constituency of Kogi State from May 1999 to May 2007. A biography on Ogbeha titled "Jonathan Tunde Ogbeha:A Noble Path" was written by Innocent Nzeke Waniko,a journalist,and presented publicly on 1 September 2017. The book chronicles the early life and comprehensively captures the life and career of Ogbeha.

The 2023 Kebbi State gubernatorial election will take place on 11 March 2023,to elect the Governor of Kebbi State,concurrent with elections to the Kebbi State House of Assembly as well as twenty-seven other gubernatorial elections and elections to all other state houses of assembly. The election will be held two weeks after the presidential election and National Assembly elections. Incumbent APC Governor Abubakar Atiku Bagudu is term-limited and cannot seek re-election to a third term.
The 2023 Nigerian Senate elections in Kebbi State will be held on 25 February 2023,to elect the 3 federal Senators from Kebbi State,one from each of the state's three senatorial districts. The elections will coincide with the 2023 presidential election,as well as other elections to the Senate and elections to the House of Representatives;with state elections being held two weeks later.
