Nanton District is one of the sixteen districts in Northern Region, Ghana. [2] [3] [4] Originally it was formerly part of the then-larger Savelugu-Nanton District in 1988, which was created from the former West Dagomba District Council, until the southern part of the district was split off to create Nanton District on 15 March 2018; thus the remaining part has been renamed as Savelugu Municipal District . The district is located in the northwest part of Northern Region and has Nanton as its capital town. The district has farming as the major activities.

It was later elevated to municipal district assembly status on 1 March 2012. However on 28 June 2012, it was split off into two new districts: Savelugu Municipal District and Nanton District. The municipality was located in the eastern part of Northern Region and had Nanton as its capital town.

Savelugu is located in the Northern Region of Ghana. Hajia Mary Salifu Boforo serve the constituency as a member of parliament in the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th parliament of the Fourth Republic of Ghana. She was elected on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and won a majority of 6,434 votes more than candidate closest in the race to win the constituency election, becoming the MP. She had earlier represented the constituency in the 4th Republican parliament.

Savelugu is a town and the capital of Savelugu Municipal, a municipality in the Northern Region of north Ghana. Savelugu has a 2012 settlement population of 38,074 people. There are many villages under Savelugu kingship. Most of the villages are smaller.

Tatale is a commercial town in Tatale Sangule District in the Northern Region of Ghana. Layout of the town is part nuclear and part linear. Its inhabitants are diverse in ethnicity with the Basares who speak Ntcham as their official language being the majority. The only Senior High School in the district is Tatale Evangelical Presbyterian Agric Senior High School. Market day in Tatale occurs once a week and is attended by many people from both far and near communities including Togoles. The Zambarama people are frequent in the market center every week and the district is largely rural, with approximately 90% of the population engaged in local agriculture, hence subsistence agriculture is the economic norm in the Tatale Sangule district.

Zogu is a community in the Savelugu-Nanton District in the Northern Region of Ghana.

Diare is a community in the Savelugu-Nanton District in the Northern Region of Ghana. It is a less populated community with nucleated settlement. Most of the inhabitants of the community are farmers especially the men.

Kadia is a community in the Savelugu-Nanton District in the Northern Region of Ghana. It is a populated community with a nucleated settlement. People in the community are predominantly farmers and traders.

Pigu is a community in the Savelugu-Nanton District in the Northern Region of Ghana. It is a populated community with nucleated settlement. People in the community are predominantly farmers.
