Tamale, officially called Tamale Metropolitan Area is the capital city of the Northern Region of Ghana. Tamale is Ghana's third-largest city. It has a projected population of 950,124 according to the Tamale Metropolitan Assembly Official Website. It is the fastest-growing city in West Africa. The city is located 600 km (370 mi) north of Accra. Most residents of Tamale are Muslims, as reflected by the multitude of mosques in Tamale, most notably the Central Mosque, Afa Ajura Mosque, and The Ahmadiyyah Muslim mission Mosque.
The Dagombas are a Gur ethnic group of northern Ghana, numbering about 931,000 (2012). They inhabit the Northern Region of Ghana in the sparse savanna region below the sahelian belt, known as the Sudan. They speak the Dagbani language which belongs to the Mole-Dagbani sub-group of the Gur languages. There are around 1 to 2 million speakers of Dagbani. The Dagomba are historically related to the Mossi people. The Mohi/Mossi now have their homeland in central present-day Burkina Faso. The homeland of the Dagomba is called Dagbon and covers about 20,000 km2 in area.
Savelugu-Nanton Municipal District is a former district that was located in Northern Region, Ghana. Originally created as an ordinary district assembly in 1988; which was created from the former West Dagomba District Council. It was later elevated to municipal district assembly status on 1 March 2012. However on 28 June 2012, it was split off into two new districts: Savelugu Municipal District and Nanton District. The municipality was located in the eastern part of Northern Region and had Nanton as its capital town.

West Mamprusi Municipal Assembly is one of the six districts in North East Region, Ghana. Originally created as an ordinary district assembly in 1988 when it was known as West Mamprusi District, which was created from the former Mamprusi District Council, until the western part of the district was split off on 28 June 2012 to create Mamprugu-Moagduri District; thus the remaining part has been retained as West Mamprusi District. However on 15 March 2018, it was elevated to municipal district assembly status to become West Mamprusi Municipal District. The municipality is located in the western part of North East Region and has Walewale as its capital town. Other settlements within the municipal assembly include Wulugu.

Originally it was formerly part of the then-larger Gushegu-Karaga District in 1988, which was created from the former East Dagomba District Council, until the western part of the district was split off to create Karaga District on 27 August 2004; thus the remaining part has been renamed as Gushegu District, which it was later elevated to municipal district assembly status on that same year to become Gushegu Municipal District. The municipality is located in the northeast part of Northern Region and has Gushegu as its capital town.

Muhammad Mumuni is a Ghanaian lawyer and politician. He was reelected to Ghana's Parliament in the 7 December 2012 General Elections, when he won the Kumbungu Seat. Mumuni left parliament in 2004 when he became John Atta Mills' vice-Presidential running mate.
Savelugu is a town and the capital of Savelugu Municipal, a municipality in the Northern Region of north Ghana. Savelugu has a 2012 settlement population of 38,074 people.
Tolon is a small town and is the capital of Tolon District, a district in the Northern Region of north Ghana.
Nyankpala is a town in the Tolon-Kumbungu District, about 10 miles south-west of Tamale, the capital of the Northern Region in north Ghana. The University for Development Studies (UDS) has a campus located in Nyankpala. This campus is the first of the University's four campuses, the first to be established in northern Ghana. Nyankpala is the hub for some important Government Institutions including the headquarters of Savanna Agricultural Research Institute (SARI) of the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), an on-farm station of the Animal Research Institute (ARI), onfarm station of the Soil Research Institute. The Avnash rice industry has a plant located in the town. This research institutes has been visited occasionally by students and academics who are on educational tour.
Kanvili is a community in Tamale Metropolitan District in the Northern Region of Ghana. It has a nucleated settlement located along the Tamale-Bolgatanga trunk road. It is a populated community.
Kumbungu District is one of the sixteen districts in Northern Region, Ghana. Originally it was formerly part of the then-larger Tolon-Kumbungu District in 1988, which was created from the former West Dagomba District Council, until the eastern part of the district was split off to create Kumbungu District on 28 June 2012; thus the remaining part has been renamed to become Tolon District. The district assembly is located in the northwest part of Northern Region and has Kumbungu as its capital town.

Originally it was formerly part of the then-larger Yendi District in 1988, which was created from the former East Dagomba District Council, until the western part of the district was later split off to create Mion District on 28 June 2012; thus the remaining original part has bee retained to become Yendi Municipal District. The district assembly is located in the central part of Northern Region and has Sang as its capital town.
