The Upper West Region of Ghana is located in the north-western corner of Ghana and is bordered by Upper East region to the east, Northern region to the south, and Burkina Faso to the west and north. The Upper West regional capital and largest settlement is Wa. The Upper West was created by the then Head of State, Flight-Lieutenant Jerry Rawlings in 1983 under the Provisional National Defense Council (PNDC) military regime. The area was carved out of the former Upper Region, which is now the Upper East Region. For about thirty-five years, it remained the youngest region of Ghana until 2018 when six more regions were created by the Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo government; hence increasing the total number of administrative regions in the country to sixteen.
East Gonja Municipal Assembly is one of the seven districts in Savannah Region, Ghana. Originally created as an ordinary district assembly in 1988 when it was known as East Gonja District, until the eastern part of the district was split off by a decree of president John Agyekum Kufuor on 29 February 2008 to create Kpandai District ; thus the remaining part has been retained as East Gonja District. Later, it was elevated to municipal district assembly status on 15 March 2018 to become East Gonja Municipal District. However on 19 February 2019, the northern part of the district was later split off to create North East Gonja District; thus remaining part has been retained as East Gonja Municipal District. The municipality is located in the eastern part of Savannah Region and has Salaga as its capital town.
Zabzugu-Tatale District is a former district that was located in Northern Region, Ghana. Originally created as an ordinary district assembly in 1988, which was created from the former East Dagomba District Council. However on 28 June 2012, it was split off into two new districts: Zabzugu District and Tatale-Sangule District. The district assembly was located in the eastern part of Northern Region and had Zabzugu as its capital town.
Tain District is one of the twelve districts in Bono Region, Ghana. Originally it was formerly part of the then-larger Wenchi District on 10 March 1989; until the western part of the district was split off to create Tain District on 12 November 2003 ; thus the remaining part has been retained as Wenchi District. Later, the northern part of the district was split off to create Banda District on 28 June 2012; thus the remaining part has been retained as Tain District. The district assembly is located in the northeast part of Bono Region and has Nsawkaw as its capital town.

Originally it was formerly part of the then-larger Krachi District on 1988, until the eastern part of the district was split off to create Krachi East District on 19 August 2004, which was established by Legislative Instrument (L.I.) 1755; thus the remaining part has been renamed to become Krachi West District. However on 14 November 2017, it was later elevated to municipal district assembly status to become Krachi East Municipal District; which was established by Legislative Instrument (L.I.) 2281. The municipality is located in the northern part of Oti Region and has Dambai as its capital town.

Originally it was formerly part of the then-larger Jasikan District on 10 March 1989, which was created from the former Jasikan District Council, until the western part of the district was split off to create Biakoye District on 29 February 2008, which was established by Legislative Instrument (L.I.) 1910; thus the remaining part has been retained as Jasikan District. The district assembly is located in the southern part of Oti Region and has Nkonya Ahenkro as its capital town.
Zabzugu is a small town and is the capital of Zabzugu district, a district in the Northern Region of north Ghana. It has a nucleated settlement and less populated. Most of the people there are farmers and their main produce is Yam.

Originally it was formerly part of the then-larger Ketu District on 10 March 1989, which was created from the former Anlo District Council, until the northern part of the district was split off to create Ketu North District on 29 February 2008; thus the remaining part has been renamed as Ketu South District. It was later elevated to municipal district assembly status on 28 June 2012 to become Ketu South Municipal District. The municipality is located in the southeast part of Volta Region and has Denu as its capital town. The Municipality is known be the largest Kente Production Hub in Ghana.

The district assembly is located in the northeast part of Northern Region and has Saboba as its capital town.

Originally it was formerly part of the then-larger Yendi District in 1988, which was created from the former East Dagomba District Council, until the western part of the district was later split off to create Mion District on 28 June 2012; thus the remaining original part has bee retained to become Yendi Municipal District. The district assembly is located in the central part of Northern Region and has Sang as its capital town.
Tatale is a commercial town in Tatale Sangule District in the Northern Region of Ghana. Layout of the town is part nuclear and part linear. Its inhabitants are diverse in ethnicity with the Basares who speak Ntcham as their official language being the majority. The only Senior High School in the district is Tatale Evangelical Presbetarian Agric Senior High School. Market day in Tatale occurs once a week and is attended by many people from both far and near communities including Togoles. The Zambarama people are frequent in the market center every week and The district is largely rural, with approximately 90% of the population engaged in local agriculture hence subsistence agriculture is the economic norm in the Tatale Sangule district. The district enjoys the services of three telecommunication service providers namely Vodafone Ghana which provides fixed line services as well as cellular network, MTN Ghana, and AirtelTIGO provide only cellular services.
The Oti Region is one of the six regions created regions of Ghana in December 2018. The region was carved out of the northern part of the Volta Region and will be in fulfillment of a campaign promise made by New Patriotic Party. Prior to the 2016 Ghanaian general election, the then candidate Nana Akufo-Addo declared that when elected, he would explore the possibility of creating new regions out of some of the existing regions in Ghana in order to bring government closer to citizens.

Originally it was formerly part of the then-larger Savelugu-Nanton District in 1988, which was created from the former West Dagomba District Council, until it was elevated to municipal district assembly status on March 2012 to become Savelugu-Nanton Municipal District. However on 15 March 2018, the southern part of the district was split off to create Nanton District on 15 March 2018; thus the remaining part has been renamed as Savelugu Municipal District. The municipality is located in the northwest part of Northern Region and has Savelugu as its capital town.
