No. 114 Helicopter Unit (Siachen Pioneers) is a Helicopter Unit and is equipped with HAL Cheetah and based at Leh Air Force Station, [1] for operations on the Siachen Glacier.
The unit was formed with an establishment of 10 Alouette helicopters. [2] This unit had the distinction of being the first all-Chetak unit raised in the IAF.[ citation needed ]
The President's Colour Award has been bestowed upon this Unit in recognition of exceptional service rendered to the nation on 13 November 1996. [3]
Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) is an Indian public sector aerospace and defence company, headquartered in Bangalore. The HAL Light Utility Helicopter (LUH), along with its derivative, Light Observation Helicopter (LOH), was designed and developed by the Rotary Wing Research and Design Center (RWR&DC), one of the R&D sections of Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), for civilian and military applications. Air Marshal B Chandra Sekhar, PVSM, AVSM is a retired officer of the Indian Air Force. He served as the commandant of the Air Force Academy. He assumed the office on 8 March 2022 succeeding Air Marshal Sreekumar Prabhakaran. Previously, he served as the Senior Air Staff Officer - Training Command.
