Oude Noorden (Old North) is an area of north Rotterdam, Netherlands and is part of the borough Noord. It has approximately 18,000 inhabitants. The district has much pre World War I and World War II architecture still in existence. It has a vibrant though somewhat discreet artistic community.
Oude Noorden is a typical residential area which was destined for the crowded city of Rotterdam to relief. The first houses were built in 1870 around the Noordsingel, which was part of the single plan of city architect Willem Nicolaas Rose. However, it was stipulated that the workers' houses were not allowed to be built on the Noordsingel.
For the rest of the neighborhood were wide streets with large blocks provided. But the streets were narrow and the houses were built close together. Between 1870 and 1930 expanded the area further and further to the north, which in 1903 became necessary to annexing a part of the territory of Hillegersberg.
Oude Noorden is home to several shopping areas. The Zwart Janstraat and Noordmolenstraat together make up the 'Noorderboulevard', which is home to many (multicultural) stores. The adjacent Zwaanshals and neighboring Noordplein and Zaagmolenkade have seen an influx of small stores after makeovers of the buildings.
In the early 20th century, the Noordplein was home to regular outdoor markets. [1] Today it is home to many other events, such as markets, carnavals, music festivals and food festivals. [2] In recent years, there has been an increase of these events, which has brought activity back to this area.
After years of deterioration, quality of life in Oude Noorden has been improved significantly by the submunicipality and housing corporations. The shopping districts Zwart Janstraat, Noordmolenstraat and adjacent Zwaanshals are now home to many multicultural stores. Both the government and the housing corporations are attempting to build up the image of the neighborhood.
Oude Noorden is a mixture of architectural styles. Most notable are the styles of the 20th century and the urban renewal in the 1980s. The district is compact with a high number of inhabitants per square kilometer. Notable buildings are the bandstand at the Pijnackerplein, and the Convent of the Ruivenstraat. In the third Pijnackerstraat is the building in which the oldest neighbourhood library of the Netherlands was established.
Many notable Dutch people are from the Oude Noorden. Coen Moulijn, Willem de Kooning, Patricia Paay, Wim Jansen, Faas Wilkes, Yvonne Keeley and Rita Reys are born in the district. There is a monument for soccer player Coen Moulijn, the wall of Coen Moulijn. It is in the Bloklandstraat where he lived for years, the street where Wim Jansen also grew up.
Rotterdam is the second largest city and municipality in the Netherlands. Wilhelmus Marinus Anthonius Jansen is a Dutch former footballer and manager. Jansen won 65 international caps with the Netherlands national football team and played in the Dutch teams that reached the 1974 and 1978 World Cup Finals.
The Toy District is a 12-block area in eastern Downtown Los Angeles, bounded by Los Angeles Street on the west, Third and Fifth streets on the north and south and San Pedro Street on the east. It is a multilingual, multicultural area that consists of one- and two-story buildings often painted in pastel shades and is home to roughly five hundred toy- and electronics-related businesses.
Hillegersberg is a neighbourhood of Rotterdam, Netherlands. Primarily a green residential area with lakes, canals and parks, it was incorporated into the city of Rotterdam in 1941.
Matheus Wilhelmus Theodorus "Theo" Laseroms was a Dutch football defender who made a name for himself when he played for Feijenoord. He gained six caps for the Netherlands national team.

The Willem de Kooning Academy is a Dutch academy of media, art, design, leisure and education based in Rotterdam. It was named after one of its most famous alumni, Dutch fine artist Willem de Kooning.
The Piet Zwart Institute is a post-graduate institute for study and research in art, media and design based in Rotterdam, Netherlands. Named in memory of the Dutch designer Piet Zwart, it was inaugurated in 2001. The current postgraduate study program structure had been introduced earlier in 1999.
The Arts & Entertainment District, or previously known as Omni, is a neighborhood of greater Downtown, Miami, Florida, United States, just south of Edgewater. It is bound roughly by North 19th Street to the north, North 10th Street to the south, North East 2nd Avenue to the west, and Biscayne Boulevard to the east.
Crooswijk is a neighborhood of Rotterdam, Netherlands. Crooswijk lies between the districts Kralingen, Oude Noorden and Centrum. Crooswijk was once known for its Marines barracks. Many streets bear witness to a military history of the Marine Corps: Tamboerstraat, Pijperstraat, Schuttersveld, Excercitiestraat, Vaandrigstraat. Crooswijk also has an industrial past. Jamin, Heineken Brewery and many abattoirs were established there. These industries have given way to housing. On the Crooswijksesingel is only the monumental building of Heineken still standing. Crooswijk is one of the original people's neighborhoods of Rotterdam and the district is strongly associated with the 'real' Rotterdammer. The Crooswijk is sometimes called: "The poorest part of the Netherlands", or: "The poorest part of Rotterdam". This is because the average income of the people living there is lower than other places.
Afrikaanderwijk is a neighborhood of Rotterdam, Netherlands. It lies in the Feijenoord district of the city, and is traditionally a working-class neighborhood. The neighborhood was one of the first in the Netherlands to have a majority of residents with an international background, primarily consisting of Turks, Moroccans, Surinamese, and Antilleans.

RCVV Zwart-Wit '28 was a Dutch Saturday football club from Rotterdam, dubbed the "Feyenoord of Saturday Football". Its women's team won the 2000 National Women's Cup then played in the professional Eredivisie. Its men's team won the National Amateur Championship in 1971, then played in the Hoofdklasse.
Overvecht is a green and spacious neighborhood in the Dutch town of Utrecht. It is one of the ten districts in which Utrecht is divided by government. Overvecht is a post-war high-rise district, as there are several in the Utrecht region. The district is spacious and has a lot of greenery between the buildings. Overvecht offers many amenities: multiple parks, a large shopping mall, a police station, a library, train station and a neighborhood office. Also in sports and cultural areas, Overvecht offers many possibilities with its own swimming pool, the Kwakel, the Vechtsebanen skating rink, a large recreation area of the Ruijgenhoek and a cultural center of Stefanus. Overvecht is Utrecht's largest expansion district. The district has 33,732 inhabitants and is therefore the fifth district in the city. The neighborhood offers housing to people of various cultural backgrounds. On the edge of Overvecht are three forts that belong to the Hollandse Waterlinie: Fort de Gagel, Fort de Klop and Fort Blauwkapel. All forts are a national monument. This area also belongs to Overvecht. District Governor Jeroen Kreijkamp (D66) is District Alderman for Overvecht.
The Kromboomssloot, or Krom Boomssloot, is a canal in the Lastage (Nieuwmarktbuurt) neighborhood in the center of Amsterdam. It provides a transverse navigation from the Rechtboomssloot and was previously called Dwarsboomssloot. As the names indicate, the Rechtboomssloot is completely straight, while there is a curve in the Kromboomssloot.
