Culture

Puzhakkattiri village at present is a predominantly Muslim populated area. So the culture of the locality is based upon Muslim traditions. Duff Muttu, Kolkali and Aravanamuttu are common folk arts of this locality. There are many libraries attached to mosques giving a rich source of Islamic studies.There also plenty of sources for hindus and other religion studies. Most of the books are written in Arabi-Malayalam which is a version of the Malayalam language written in Arabic script. People gather in mosques for the evening prayer and continue to sit there after the prayers discussing social and cultural issues. Business and family issues are also sorted out during these evening mtivals in their temples. Puzhakkattiri village has some very old Hindu temples which were once part of the renowned families who have been there since centuries. One of these temples even have ruins of Tippu's attack back in time. Hindu rituals and festivals are practiced here just like in other parts of Kerala. There is a beautiful waterfall called Paloor Kotta falls which looks beautiful post rains.Paloorkotta has a abandoned historical monument of tippu's fort. [1] The famous Sri Rama Kshethram at Ramapuram which is a part of the famous Nalambalam(Temples of Sri Rama's brothers Laxmanan, Bharathan, Shatruganan) is a pilgrimage centre for pious Hindus.
