Hartlepool is a large port town in County Durham, North East England. It is the largest settlement and administrative centre of the Borough of Hartlepool. The town is located 32 miles (51 km) south-east of Newcastle upon Tyne, 17 miles (27 km) south-east of Durham, 20 miles (32 km) south-east of Sunderland, and 12 miles (19 km) north-east of Stockton-on-Tees.

He was previously Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State with responsibility for apprenticeships, and 14 to 19 reform in the Department for Children, Schools and Families until 11 May 2010.

Hartlepool Borough Council governs Elwick. As Elwick is only a small parish it is not able to run itself as its own district. It does have a Parish Council. Elwick was known as a township until 1866, but then was changed to a civil parish status.
Heaton is a ward within the City of Bradford Metropolitan District Council, West Yorkshire, England. The population at the 2001 census was 16,913, which had increased to 17,121 at the 2011 Census. Historically part of the West Riding of Yorkshire, the ward includes the villages of Frizinghall, Heaton and Daisy Hill, extending to Chellow Heights Reservoir on the western edge and the Bradford-Shipley railway line on the eastern edge. Frizinghall railway station is on the edge of the ward.

English Martyrs is the only Catholic secondary school in Hartlepool. The 2012 Hartlepool Borough Council election took place on 3 May 2012 to elect members of Hartlepool Borough Council. There were a number of differences in the composition of constituencies from the 2011 elections, including the absence of the Bruns, Dyke House, Grange, Greatham, Owton, Park, Rift House, Rossmere, St. Hilda, Stranton, and Throston wards. While the 2011 election had 15 available seats, the 2012 election had 36. Burn Valley, Foggy Furze, Hart, and Seaton wards each had two more seats than the previous year, and De Bruce, Fens & Rossmere, Headland & Harbour, Jesmond, Manor House, Rural West, and Victoria, which did not appear in 2011, all held three seats. The Labour Party once again dominated the election.
