SES-7 (also formerly known as ProtoStar-2 / Indostar-2) is a commercial communications satellite operated by SES World Skies, then SES S.A.

Spacecraft

ProtoStar-2 is a geosynchronous communications satellite built by Boeing. It is a BSS-601HP satellite bus. On 15 November 2002, PanAmSat terminated its contract with Boeing Satellite Systems (BSS) for the almost-completed Galaxy-8iR satellite, claiming that Boeing had defaulted on the terms of the contract, and requested US$72 million from Boeing to refund prior advance payments and other costs. The satellite was later converted into the ProtoStar-2 satellite, which was launched in May 2009. Late 2009, it is purchased through auction by SES S.A. for SES World Skies unit for US$180 million. The satellite was renamed SES-7 in May 2010.

Launch

Launched on 16 May 2009 at 00:57:38 UTC, since Baikonur Cosmodrome, Site 200/39 for ProtoStar Ltd by Proton-M / Briz-M launch vehicle. Launch arranged by International Launch Services (ILS).

Market

It is positioned at 108.2° East longitude and serves customers in Indonesia, India, Taiwan, the Philippines, and Southeast Asia. Protostar 2 carries 10 (+3) S-band and 22 (+5) Ku-band transponders for optimized HD satellite television direct-to-home (DTH) satellite television service and broadband Internet access across the Asia-Pacific region. [2] The S-band payload is operated under the name of IndoStar-2 (Cakrawarta-2). [3]

IndoStar-1, also known as Cakrawarta-1, was a communication satellite that was launched the evening of November 12, 1997 at 21:48 GMT aboard an Ariane 44L-3 rocket from Kourou, French Guiana. As the first direct broadcasting satellite (DBS) in Asia, IndoStar-1 would initiate a new communication service for Indonesian society such as direct-to-home television.

Boeing 702 is a communication satellite bus family designed and manufactured by the Boeing Satellite Development Center, and flown from the late-1990s into the 2020s. It covers satellites massing from 1,500 kg (3,300 lb) to 6,100 kg (13,400 lb) with power outputs from 3 to 18 kW and can carry up to approximately 100 high-power transponders.

AMC-4 is a commercial broadcast communications satellite owned by SES World Skies, part of SES S.A.. Launched in 1999, from Centre Spatial Guyanais, ELA-2 by Ariane 44LP H10-3. It provides coverage to North America, Latin America, Caribbean. Located in a geostationary orbit, AMC-4 provides service to commercial and government customers, with programming distribution, satellite news gathering and broadcast internet capabilities.

JSAT Corporation (JSAT) was the first private Japanese satellite operator, which owned the JSAT satellites, as well as operated and partially owned the N-Star with NTT DoCoMo. Its origins can be traced to the funding of Japan Communications Satellite Company (JCSAT) and Satellite Japan Corporation in 1985. Both companies merged into Japan Satellite Systems Inc. in 1993. In 2000 the company was renamed as JSAT Corporation and was listed in the First Section of the Tokyo Stock Exchange. On September 1, 2008, the company was merged into the SKY Perfect JSAT Group.

MNC Vision, previously known as Indovision, is a direct-to-home satellite television and radio service that operates in Indonesia on a subscription basis. It is owned by PT MNC Vision Networks Tbk, which is a subsidiary of MNC Asia Holding. MNC Vision is the oldest subscription-based television service in Indonesia and is known for its slogan "Pay TV Keluarga Indonesia," which means "Pay TV for Indonesian Families."

ProtoStar Ltd was a private company incorporated in Bermuda, with U.S. operations based in San Francisco, California and Asian operations based in Singapore. ProtoStar intended to operate an initial fleet of three geostationary satellites. Two satellites were acquired and launched. ProtoStar's anchor customer, Dish TV India Limited, is the largest direct-to-home television operator in India.

AMC-21, or GE-21, is an American communications satellite operated by SES S.A., formerly SES World Skies and SES Americom. It was launched in August 2008 and is expected to remain in service for approximately 15 years. It is currently located at 125° West longitude.

EchoStar VI or EchoStar 6 is a former American communications satellite which was operated by EchoStar. In 2013, the satellite was rebranded BermudaSat 1 after the satellite was sold to a Bermudan subsidiary of SES S.A., a satellite technology company based in Luxembourg.

SES-1 is a geostationary communications satellite which is operated by SES World Skies, then by SES S.A.

Horizons-3e, also known as IS-H3e, is a high throughput geostationary communications satellite ordered by Horizons Satellite, a joint venture of Intelsat and SKY Perfect JSAT Group. The spacecraft is designed and manufactured by Boeing on the Boeing-702MP platform.

The JSAT constellation is a communication and broadcasting satellite constellation formerly operated by JSAT Corporation and currently by SKY Perfect JSAT Group. It has become the most important commercial constellation in Japan, and fifth in the world. It has practically amalgamated all private satellite operators in Japan, with only B-SAT left as a local competitor.

JCSAT-2A, known as JCSAT-8 before launch, is a geostationary communications satellite operated by SKY Perfect JSAT Group (JSAT) which was designed and manufactured by Boeing Satellite Systems on the BSS-601 platform. It has Ku-band and C-band payload and was used to replace JCSAT-2 at the 154° East longitude. It covers Japan, East Asia, Australia and Hawaii.
