Salamonie Township was organized in 1835. [2] It was named from the Salamonie River. [3]
According to the 2010 census, the township has a total area of 36.49 square miles (94.5 km2), of which 36.3 square miles (94 km2) (or 99.48%) is land and 0.19 square miles (0.49 km2) (or 0.52%) is water. [4] The stream of Weasel Creek runs through this township.
The township contains eight cemeteries: Woodlawn, Masonic, Spring Hill, Mitchell, Red Men, Thompson Home, West Union, and Good-Jones. [5]
Salamonie township contains one elementary school: Salamonie School.
